I was watching Dr. K’s Exotic Animal ER earlier and the bottom information said that bumble foot is common in rabbits. I went to see what the difference is but the blogs I read interchanged bumble foot and sore hocks. Are they the same?

I think they mean sore hocks (pododermatitis). Bumble foot is a word used for pododermatitis in chickens. Maybe the tv-people thought people are more familiar with chickens so the audience can relate more to the word bumblefoot?

Rabbits are somewhat prone to pododermatitis, esp rex rabbits. Its because rabbit feet don’t have any padding except their fur. The condition is very common in rabbits that are kept on metal wire floors, which is why pet rabbits never should be kept on metal wire flooring. It’s even illegal in some countries to house rabbits on metal wire flooring only.

It’s wise to check your buns’ feet weekly for signs of sore hocks. Even very furry buns can have sparse, silky fur on their feet, and if you fold the fur back and look closely, you can see some callousing of the skin underneath. Callouses are not full-blown sore hocks, but it’s sth to keep a close eye on.
