Building our first NIC/Flooring questions

 Good afternoon everyone! My husband and I are building Rorschach our 6ish month old dwarf bun (and admittedly our first bun) his first NIC condo.  During our first few months as bunny parents I have used this site countless times as to what to do/not do with our new bundle of furry joy, and am finally delving into the world of bunny DIY!  As far as flooring is concerned, for the bottom I’m going to be using coroplast (Rorschach actually really enjoys running around and sliding – after doing so was the first time I got to see what a binky was – as much as it may give me a heart attack!) but my concern is what to use on the other levels.  I’m concerned that vinyl/linoleum will be TOO slippery and lead to a mishap (he is a bit of a rebel!) and on the other hand worried that carpet will lead to chewing (he is definitely a chewer no matter how many toys he has or how often they are rotated).  We have tried the seagrass mats previously and he shredded them within a day or two so I’m thinking that is not the most viable option for flooring on the upper floors for long term.  He does really like his fleece blankets and doesn’t chew them (shockingly!) but rather loves to dig at them and scrunch them up and smooth them out – sometimes I swear he mocks me when I’m folding laundry!  If anyone has any suggestions for some overly protective new bun parents we would greatly appreciate it   Thankfully he does use the litterbox for the intended purpose with only a rogue poo or two!

I use fleece held down with bricks In the corners in my bunnies pen, and that works quite well for me. A lot of people say that linoleum itself is fine, but my bunnies don’t like slippery flooring so they get fleece. Is your bunny the one in your profile pic? He is so cute!

Thank you so much, and yes that is our little bun of joy in my profile pic! We got a few different flooring options to try out to see how he does – he actually likes slippery flooring, but I just worry that slippery flooring on the upper levels & a bunny who loves to run and slide would spell disaster. He LOVES his fleece blankets so I will probably put some down as traction strips. Hopefully his new condo will be finished today and we can begin to move him into there – he has been helping us build it and so far approves of it!

Vinyl/laminate flooring is good for easy cleanup. But if your bun is consistently using the litterbox – maybe it’s not necessary for him. For our two boys – we used vinyl tiles for the condo floors…and then bought small carpet remnant tiles, maybe 10″ x 24″ to lie one on each level. They were only $1 per tile at Menards.

As long as the levels are designed so that there isn’t a gap, slippery floors would only mean falling down one level. I have hyperactive dwarfs and they frequently fall off a level especially if they are being chased. This even happens on floors with a towel covering the floor so it doesn’t necessary have to do with traction. Given the distance between the floors and the floor design, they’ve never gotten hurt or fallen more than one level

 The structure of Porky’s condo floors ir NIC grids.  Over that, there is carpet protector.  I think this is what I got from Target, but the picture on Amazon is clearer though.
