I’m planning to build a run for my two rabbits and have it attached to their hutch by a tunnel. I have a whole bunch of questions you guys might be able to help me with!
I’m not sure what materials would be best, I’d like to do a wood and wire set up but which kinds of wood are best? (other than non-treated, I already know that!)
As far as flooring goes I’d live to avoid wire so I was thinking of putting tiles around the edges inside the run, would that be enough to stop them from digging out? How far in should the tiles come to keep them in/safe?
I’m also interested on your thoughts about height of the run. I know it needs to be high enough for them to stand up completely but what sort of numbers would you give that? I’ve heard 60-90cm but interested in your thoughts!
Is there a length of tunnel that’s too much for the bunnies to travel to the run? Does it help to break it up with wire sections so they can see out?
The current dimensions I’m thinking about are 3m x 2.5m x 1m if anyone is wondering! Although it might have to be a bit smaller based on price of materials/how much my dad wants to chip in haha

Untreated pine is the most widely available bunny-safe wood so I would probably stick to that. If you are going to leave them unattended in the run, it really would be best to put some wire down. Can you bury it in the ground under the run so they don’t have to stand on it but it will still add to the safety of the run?
Like you said, your bunnies should be able to stand up completely, and this will depend greatly on your bunnies. Check how high they come when they stand, and go off that.
I think any (reasonable) length of tunnel would be fine as long as it is secure. -
We bought some things on the weekend and did end up getting untreated pine
To begin with they wont be left unattended in the run but I did want to link it up to their hutch (and eventually when I move and can have them inside, my house). I can’t really bury it because I am planning to move fairly soon, hopefully before the end of the year but if not it’ll be soon after that. Also if I did do that and then dug it up I wouldn’t be able to re-bury it at a rental place :s
I ended up deciding to do a 90cm tall roof because that’s how tall the wire is and it’s easier not to cut it! Plus it’ll be plenty high and I can probably put some things for them to climb on with enough room in there!
