        Hi everyone,

Thought i would give you an update, we decided that Bugsy needed a friend when we were out at work but unfortunately the one we fell in love with was a white lop earred dwarf she has grey spotty ears she is only 8 weeks old and adorable, her name is Charlie.  Unfortunately we have to keep them apart as we do not really want more babies (as i would have to keep them!!!).  Anyway so Bugsy is being neutered on the 9th November, i have read everything about it and i am a little worried he is my baby and loves sitting with me and getting smoothed! and i worry in case he gets upset that i have put him through that.  It is quite funny watching the pair of them, Charlie is in a hutch and Bugsy is in an x pen and even though they haven’t gone though the bonding process, charlie often goes up to bugsy and they nose each other, occasionally bugsy will nibble her nose but she runs off.  I can’t wait for them to be together but then i am apprehensive in case they fight, oh well only time will tell.  anyway i will keep you all updated. sam x

I’m really glad to hear you’re going to get Bugsy neutered – he likely will be happier and certainly healthier. I think all bunny parents worry about neutering their buns – but it really is for the best care of your bunny. After he’s netuered it will still be a month or so until you can trust that he’s no longer able to impregnate Charlie.

We’ll all be here when you start the bonding process – I know many of us are in process of bonding or have successfully bonded pairs. There is also some good info about bonding in the “bunny info” section of the site.

Thank you for your kind words.

Bugsy had his operation on Thursday, but he had a bleed just as we were collecting him, they managed to stop the bleeding and put a plaster on it.  When we got him home he was still quite woozy from the anaesthetic, he was very wobbly and just sat there bewildered, it was a worrying time as he wouldn’t eat, drink or poop, at the vets they said that he had tried to eat but fell asleep head first in his bowl which i’m sure was a funny sight!! i sat up with him till around 12pm when he took his first sips of water but he refused to eat anything and i gave him all his favourite treats but he was not interested.  So sat up most of the night contemplating whether to contact the emergency vets or not, but around 7am he tried a little food and used his litter tray.  Friday he was much the same but his twinkle came back in his eyes.  Saturday he was ready to come out of his x-pen but wasnt running around like his usual self.  Sunday he went back to the vets to take the plaster off and he is still very swollen on one side but they said it should go down soon and to keep an eye on it.  after the vets we let him out and he seems much happier, can’t wait to let him and Charlie start the bonding process what a christmas treat that will be!!

Ohh. It sounds like he had a tougher time with waking up.  It usually takes a couple of days or even more if female to get fully back into the swing of things. You were smart to make sure he was eating and drinking, I’m sure that was extremely stressful to watch.

I am assuming he is eating by now?   I’m eager to hear another update.

                  Hi,

He is eating, drinking and running around as if nothing has happened, i’m glad that this horrible experience hasn’t scarred him!  Just looking forward to the bonding process with Charlie!

Glad to hear Bugsy is doing great.  Are you planning to get Charlie spayed? I got Sophie spayed when she was 4 months old before any bad behavior problems could take a hold of her.

Glad to hear Bugsy’s okay.  With Sable going for his surgery this week, I’m eager to see how everyone else is.

                      Thanks for sharing your experience.

We are going to get Charlie spayed but the vet recommended that we get her done when she is 6 months old, not sure really what to do. She is very small and when we first got her you could feel her rib cage so i think the vet is a little concerned that she is a little under weight. she is doing great know, we have had her a month and she is finally getting used to us, even though her and bugsy are not properly together yet she licks his mineral wheel and he sits there with his nose though his xpen resting in her fur, it is so cute, wish i could show you but everytime i get my camera she runs away!!

Hope Sable went through his surgery okay, it is a very stressful time but plenty of loving from his mom i’m sure he will be fine! How did he get on?

I just brought Sable home.  Everything went well, just one extra stitch where he got nicked but he was up and about within minutes and started eating and drinking right away.

He’s in his cage now and obviously having a bit of trouble getting comfortable.  The first thing he did when I put him in the cage was take a good long drink of water.   Now he’s sort of tossing and turning  trying to find the right  position.

While he was in surgery I went down the street to the pet store and bought some papaya, a new chewy toy and an igloo for his pen.  I can’t wait until he’s back to hopping all over me!!

Now I’m thinking how cute it would be to get a little friend for him, but I’m not sure how to broach the subject with dh.  Guess I’ll have to play that one by ear.

Just an FYI:  Unless prescribed because of some sort of mineral deficiency,as long as he is getting a good diet, bunnies don’t need a mineral block/wheel.   And actually if the diet is fine, then adding more minerals then necessary can cause long term health problems.
