I’m just wondering how/whether people brush their rabbit’s belly fur. My bun likes being groomed so he happily sits still and lets me brush his back, bum, head, and sides. But he doesn’t like his belly touched – if I try to reach underneath him he gets annoyed and wanders off (same for if I try to come and start brushing while he is flopped belly-up). I can tell that his belly fur is shedding quite a lot, but I’m not sure what to do about it. If I turn him upside down and pin him he will stay still (I have to do it to cut his nails), but I know that’s stressful and I don’t want to do it unnecessarily. Should I worry about loose fur on his belly? Or should I just groom everything I can reach and let nature take its course with the rest?

I pluck out as much belly hair as I can, and let nature take its course with the rest. A lot of it sticks to his favorite mats and vet beds, so I can lint-roll it off. Bam would slit my throat Monthy Python-style if I tried brushing his belly.

Yes, I’m pretty sure I would be murdered if I tried.

Luna has let me get away with it…twice…unscathed . I placed my hand under her chest and lifted her until her front legs were off the ground but keeping her back legs on the ground, then I used my other hand to pluck/brush some of her belly fur. It usually doesn’t have to be done, but it was shedding particularly bad those 2 times.

You do not touch Wooly’s chest. LOL

                  I do it.

I do it while standing, Bobi’s back against my tummy and I lift his front paws with my palm. His hind legs are on the table, so it is like he is standing. I gently brush his tummy and sides and in between his legs. He doesn’t like it but he gets treats afterwards and he never holds grudges.

@JosipTheBunny, I admire you greatly, lol. My bunny is on team Don’t-You-Dare-Touch-My-Belly. I try to brush the top of her enough so that it doesn’t matter how much belly fur she accidentally eats while grooming herself.
