Hello! I’m new here, I have a 6 months years old french lop. Ever since we got him he had a lot of health issues, nerve attack from low sugar, worms and mold from previous owner. And he still has troubles with gaining weight.

2 weeks ago his peristalsis slowed so we went to a vet again, he got some injections to support peristalsis and antibiotics.

Two days after that (he was still eating antibiotics at home) I noticed a brownish discharge coming from his butt, but I found that it can be because of the antibiotics, it disappeared after that. However, today it was there again, ans it didn’t stop, he has it the whole day. And in one of his poop I found something looking like a red stting or worm, it wasn’t a worm though, maybe something like a clotted blood? I’m definitely taking him to a vet tomorrow, but I wanted to ask if any of you didn’t have the same problem. I’m a little bit worried the vet won’t help, they keep saying his health is alright but obviously isn’t…

And one more question. I was talking to my teacher who is a vet about his weight, and he said he might have coccidiosis. However, he isn’t showing any symptoms expect of the weight loss, he eats a lot (I changed his diet now, he eats A LOT of pellets and fruit which helped a little to gain weight) and is playful. Should I be concerned?

        Thank you!

A lot of symptoms may be absent in older bunnies. Symptoms are much more pronounced in very young bunnies. So it’s possible it could be coccidiosis. Bloody mucus is definitely concerning. If it is coccidiosis, then it is serious. I would have him seen by a vet as soon as possible. The infection is usually treated with sulfa drugs.

So, I took him to a vet the day after that, thankfully it wasn’t blood and she said to let it be for now, if it happens again I will take a sample and let them do microscopic examination. The same goes for coccidiosis, she said there’s no need to be scared right now. I really hope she is right.

He looks good, he finally got vaccinated too, as he couldn’t be vaccinated before ^^ Now I just hope he will gain more weight and his health problems will stop!
