Is Brome hay good for bunnies?

Brome hay is a good high fiber grass hay that is fine for bunnies.  Most people that I know who feed it do not use it as their main hay, they use it as a supplement to their regular timothy or orchard grass hay.  Some bunnies really like it, mine unfortunately disapprove of it.

I am having the opposite experience! I let them try it and now that’s all they want to eat. Should I hold off on feeding it to them until they start eating their timothy hay again?

Based on a quick reading of the Oxbow site, the nutritional profile of brome, timothy and orchard grass is basically the same.  I’d say go ahead and let them enjoy it as long as it is something you can get more of.  You can also try a hay salad, mixing various varieties together.

I bought brome once. Buns love it now I can’t find it anymore. The petstores I used 1 moved away and the other one doesn’t have it. So it can be found at oxbow. I may just have to order it for them. I like to put in different hay sometimes with their timothy to give them variety.

Cadbury hated the Brome when I tried it! She loves Oxbow’s botanical hay, though, I supplement her timothy with that.
