Stanley time to time gets a broken whisker. If any one out there (me me me) dyes their hair.. they get split ends. I happen to have plenty and it kinda looks like that. They just start to break in one area. I’ve read that in cats/dogs that can mean they’re sick. Does this happen to anyone elses bunny?

        Thanks as always!

By broken, do you mean suddenly shorter, or pulled out at the root and possibly bleeding? I would say that if it’s just snapped along the way and is shorter, it’s probably a natural form of shedding, or got caught in something that broke it. Whiskers, after all, are there to feel the surroundings first before a more vulnerable part of the anatomy comes into contact with an object (like an eye), so it may be just doing its job.

But if there is a bleeding root around the nose and mouth, I would take Stanley to your vet to be examined. Especially if there is a redness to the skin, or other fur loss or wetness in the area. It could indicate a problem with teeth, infection, or other illness.

By the way, a mini rex has curly, very short whiskers that serve little purpose, but other bunnies have very long one.

Do you mean they are becoming brittle and easily breaking and have frayed split ends like over processed hair?

I’ve never seen or heard of it in a bunny, but in humans when that happens to hair it can be a sign of health problems. Malnutrition and hormone imbalance are common causes of brittle hair in humans, I get brittle hair that breaks easily and tends towards split ends when my thyroid levels are off.
