I was reading a book that said that if your bunny has a floppy ear when he should have uppy-ears it means he has been mishandled or has some sort of affliction. True? Or can some bunnies just have one ear that flops over? I always thought it gave him character (and is often the only way I can tell him from his sister) but I’d feel bad if something happened to him to make him that way.

(Also, as a bonus question, what color is he? The vet laughed when I said “brown” as his coat color. Never asked what I should’ve said, I felt too stupid!)

How old is your bunny? Lop eared bunnies start out with uppy ears and then they flop. Sometimes lop mixes will have more control over their ears too. When I was a kid, I had a rabbit with one uppy ear and one floppy ear. Sometimes she would hold them both up or down though. She was a mix.

          Color looks like agouti.

I concur on agouti, and I have seen too many helicopter ears for it to be an injury. The muscles might be a bit weaker that side or he just likes to wear it at a roguish angle or Mummy was a Loppity and Daddy was an Uppity and he has split the difference. Either way it looks good on him.

Aww, I love “helicopter buns”. Don’t worry, it’s perfectly normal and may just mean that he has some lop in him.

I would just have said “brown” too! Though agouti is probably a good term way to describe it .

Just chiming in to say — How adorable your bunny is! I do have seen many many bunnies with the sort of half-lop without ever being mishandled. Not sure if there was a lop gene mixed in from some great great grandparent. (not familiar with how that works), but it is one of the most adorable looks around in my opinion.

There have been incidents where an adult bunny, who has always had uppity ear, suddenly, out of the blue has a loppy-ear and in that case, when some sudden change happens after years of ears being uppity, then that can mean there is a problem -(infection or injury or ??)   But in your case, especially since your vet has already looked at him, then the only thing he’s got is CUTENESS!

I just want to say how CUTE your buns is!!! I would have said brown or tan too. I guess my Crayola box of colors that I have names for is the 16-pack and not the 100-pack

Hunny has 1 flopped ear also… BUT when she wants she’ll hold it fully erect.  I freaked out too when I noticed that she had helicopter ears & even posted on here about it just like you… After it had been like that for a couple weeks I called the vet to have her seen & just like a kid when they’re sick & you take them tothe doc & they are all of a sudden fine… her ear popped back up & stayed up for a long time, then plop! Down it went… I had her checked anyway to make sure there wasn’t an ear infection or anything & she was given a clean bill of health.  Even now as I type she’s lying under the kitchen table with her right ear flopped over but later today I’ll look & it’ll probably be straight up with the other one.  If he’s scratching at it or it seems to be bothering him then I’d worry but if not, it’s just like you said… it gives him character!  And as far as his coloring goes in Flemish terms,  he does sorta look like Hunny who’s Fawn (redish brown).  Flemish also have Sandy as one of the colorings… Google pics of both & see which yours resembles best…

He gets extra cuteness points for those “helicopter ears”.

Plenty of bunnies that are mixed with lops have helicopter ears like that. I love helicopter ears!

His color is chestnut. Chestnut is agouti (as others have said) it’s just the specific shade since agouti is a family of related colors.

For a flemmie color – I think he would be termed a “Sandy”…. My Roscoe does the floppy ear thing sometimes, too….

Thanks guys! When I took him in to be neutered, they called him a Sandy. So Sandy it is!

He also can hold his ears straight up, he just prefers not to.

But as soon as I start opening up the bag that means more pellets, his ears perk right up and he is very happy to see me!
