Just today I noticed that one of Remy’s toes/nails on his left front foot is sticking out at a 90 degree angle. And since he’s such a jumpy bunny, it’s really hard to get a closer look and whenever I try to gently pick up his foot he kind of shifts away (which is what he always does anyway) so I really don’t have much to go on besides the fact that his toe is sticking out.

I’m not really sure what could be wrong. I’ve tried looking it up online, and most of the suggestions are that the bunny’s toe could be broken or dislocated… I don’t know when I can get him to a vet (I’m hoping really really really soon unfortunately probably not today, but maybe tomorrow?) but I was wondering if anyone could know what to do in the meantime?

If it is broken or dislocated, it needs to be set. You can’t do that at home. So just keep an eye on him and try to keep him from injuring it further and make sure he’s eating if it is causing him pain. Hope the vet can see you soon. Please try to get him as soon as you can, as you don’t want it to be left untreated or it can heal that way.

Never mind, it turned out that when I tried to pick him up and he ran away, a part of his nail broke off and how his foot looks normal again. I’ve looked at some other topics and I’m sure he’s fine now. No bleeding or anything – his nail just broke off, probably because he needs a nail trimming

Was it the whole nail that broke off or just a piece sticking out, like we break a nail tip but the nail isn’t totally removed?
If the entire toenail is gone, I am concerned about infection – plus it may hurt. I would let a vet look it over, or at least call in the morning to see if you need to bring him in. Watch for redness or swelling overnight, or limping in the morning. If any of those symptoms appear, definitely bring him to a vet tomorrow.

P.S. Love his widdle face in your avatar.

His nail is completely fine – it’s just that a part of it’s off came off, like what you said – where the nail isn’t removed it’s just the tip that’s broken. He’s fine now – no limping or pulling away his foot immediately when I try to look at it (he just kind of shuffles away like he always does now, not jerk it away).

And thanks! The rabbit in my avatar is actually a rabbit I had before Remy – Tammo (RIP).

OFF TOPIC: Are you PeppyPoo’s sister?

I’m glad to hear little Remy is doing well.

                    That’s a relief.
                    He needs a private manicurist.

RabbitPam – I’m just happy that he’s okay now I was panicking a bit when I first saw it.
