sooo… just got back from the out-of-town special vet visit with baby girl. while they were flushing out her right eye her wee heart stopped from the anesthetic
and so reviving her was first priority and they didn’t get to flush her other eye.
of course by the time i saw her she was looking groggy but otherwise normal and she was digging at her blanky and eating hay on the way home. phew. when she ran out of her carrier into her room she flicked her foots at me & ran straight into her enclosure to chill.
during her visit today the vet got her a consult from the opthamologist and when they probed her tear duct it bled slightly. this told them that anti-inflamitories should be prescribed along with her antibiotic drops and so i came home with some metacam to give her daily for a month and will continue with the ofloxacin drops 3x daily for the next few days. they sent off a culture and will call me when it’s back to let me know if her antibiotics need to be adjusted.
so what we know now is that the infection was likely brought on by elongated tooth roots which can happen in elder bun buns. they could confirm this by taking a scan thingy of her head but dr raj didn’t recommend it as it would not change the course of treatment. so it’s antibiotics, anti-inflamitory and tear duct massages. because her heart stopped with the anesthetic he does not recommend ongoing tear duct flushing.
crap… forgot to ask about saline drops. i was thinking that they’d have unclogged her ducts this second time around and i was going to ask about salne drops for preventative measures but the whole heart-stopping incident got me off track.
anyways… he’s going to send a report to my vet and we’ll continue to treat her locally now. off i go to check on the patient.
Oh poor little baby girl. Wow what a horrible thing to go through. I’m glad she’s eating fine. I guess she was not too happy with you. The foot flicking thing just cracks me up. You know where you stand! Oh I hope she gets better. How old is Baby? We’ll keep good healing thoughts for you.
thanks knowltons! baby’s name is a bit of a misnomer now… she’ll be 8yrs old this fall. the foot flicking cracked me up too. and i felt relieved. seeing her persnicketiness lets me know she’s not that sick or in a whole lot of pain.
What a horrible experience…I was just saying if she is flipping you the foot, she must be ok.
((((((( healing vibes for her and tranquil vibes for you ))))))
oh no, guys!! what a thing to go through!! for baby, and for you…Is she “ok” now??? I’m glad they brought her back!! poor baby!!
***GOOD LUCK***
*hugs*

Oh my gosh – I’m so glad she is okay. How scary scary scary.
My first rabbit Bunbun had those elognated tooth roots and we never could clear up his poor little eyes. They didn’t haven metacam though when I had Bunbun so we never tried that but we tried tons of drops.
{{{{{{{{{{healing vibes to Baby}}}}}}}}}}}
I’m sorry that happened – it must have been so frightening! Baby seems like she’s got quite a lot of fight in her still
I’m sure she’s still got a lot to teach Pinky about rabbitude. I’m glad she did OK! We will keep Baby in our prayers tonight.
thanks all for the vibes… they feel good ![]()
aina, yes baby is okay now. i just gave her eye drops & anti-inflamitory meds & she went & harassed the dog in typical fashion afterwards. and then ran away when she saw me ![]()
sarita, the vet said that doesn’t expect her eye problems to go away so it really seems a lot like your bunbun’s situation. hopefully the metacam will help a bit… it’ll be interesting to see. in any case i know we’re dealing with a chronic issue now & as long as i know she’s otherwise in fine form i’m quite happy to contiue her face wash / massages!
{{{{Baby}}}}
Poor girl, what a nightmare. I am glad she is getting better and flicking you!
OMG you poor things! ((hugs & prayers))))))) Honestly, you must’ve been one cool cucumber, if I’d heard my bun had flatlined on the table, even if he had been revived, I’d have been chasing my vet around with a stick!
I am sending you many healing vibes for Baby bun! You go sit down with a nice drink or something you poor girl! ;_;
LOL@MimzMum
The image of a momentarily insane woman chasing a vet in a white coat around an exam table brandishing a stick leapt into my head. Like a scene from a cartoon!
mimzmum thats funny. lol. i can picture the cartoon version of that too ![]()
i rarely get angry in those situations, i just go straight into shock and i look like a deer caught in headlights
. the vet apologized immediately & started re-explaining the risks of antesthesia… meanwhile my eyes teared up. then after i assured him that i understand (and wasn’t blaming him) he apologized for telling me & scaring the buhjeebers outta me.
it’s actually kinda funny too… the other person’s reaction to my shock & tears. people never know what to do with it. lol. once i was in home depot to get some screws to hang something up. it was shortly after my dad passed & i was standing in the middle of all the screws when i realized that i hadn’t a clue what i needed & that i wished my dad was there. just as my eyes were filling with big old tears a store employee came upto me. he started to ask “can i help you” but as he said “ca…” he realized i was crying so for the “…an i help you” part he had a look of complete fear on his face. it was so funny even in my sad state that i laughed and asked him about what screw to get. poor slob was terrified of me then. look out for the crying woman who’s laughing while shopping for screws! ![]()
hahahaha mimzmum!! You and Me both!! Vets beware!!! That’s sooo funny
BBM I’m so glad she’s OK, I know my darn heart would have stopped had I heard that!! Your definitely one cool cucumber !! and baby gives you the foot flick-just so you know everythings OK LOL
Aww give her a nose rub for me. You can have a guilt free glass of wine or extra long luxury bath!! *HUGS* **VIBES**
Hehehe….I could make a joke about the woman with the screw loose, but I think I won’t. ^_^ That poor guy probably thought it was your “time.” Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you just look like you have PMS. xD
Seriously though, I am SO glad Baby Bun is okay! And yeah, I usually don’t fire up unless I’ve gotten over a shock first…but about 15 minute later I am brandishing my fiery charm and my special way with words. On the other hand, it’s the hubby who goes agro the nanosecond after someone slights him…and I’m usually in a corner with my hands over my eyes and shaking my head muttering, “I don’t know this man, he’s a complete stranger, honestly, Officer, I’ve never seen him before in my life!”
O.K. I know I posted here, unless this discussion is somewhere else as well? Otherwise it has been deleted for some odd reason…
did you scarlet_rose? i don’t remember seeing your post… wierd. i was having probs posting earlier because i was trying to copy & paste text with some of the new smilies in it. maybe something like that happened?
I’m not sure but I am POSITIVE I posted here yesterday. I have an e-mail into BB. So I’ll reiterate, I am very sorry for all the drama and am very glad baby is O.K. ((((HUGS))))
poor Baby! give her kisses for me.
AWW!! poor baby!! I’m SOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad that you are OK!!
we LOVE you……baby……

Awwww sweet Baby! Christine, what vet are you taking Baby to? Have you ever heard of Campus Estates? They are really knowledgeable with bunny dental issues and perhaps they can give you a second opinion. They are in Guelph. Might be worth a try.
http://www.petsandvets.ca/index.html
actually i have heard of that through reading some posts on rabbitrescue. i love my local vet… dr buhrows at lincoln village animal hospital (i’m in waterloo) but she wanted baby to be seen by an opthamologist at ovc when here eyes weren’t responding to the drops. have you heard of dr raj raghav? that’s who treated baby at ovc. he’s not the opthamologist but the vet who spoke with me & examined baby.
Glad Baby is okay. Poor you having to go through that! How scary!
<<>> Hope it clears up soon!
(((((((((((((((((((BABY)))))))))))))))) Sorry I just saw this thread.. Would of been a heart stopper for yourself too.
