        Hi,

        Hoping someone can answer.
I’ve had bunnies before but I was always a bit too young to get involved in this part of the process so it’s one of the only bits I’m not familiar with!
I have had my darling Bailey now for about 3 months, he’s 5months old and started circling and spraying last month. I want to get him neutered but need to check if his balls have dropped first. I’m pretty sure they have but want to be sure so I don’t take him to the vet only to look stupid.
When I flip him over and have a little look (most undignifying, I know) there are two little purple wrinkly sacks either side of his penis. Can anyone confirm that’s about how they should look?
I’m really hoping to get him done by Xmas so he calms down a bit. He is a darling most of the time but he chews everything, sprays me when I tell him no and drives me mad with his grunting and circling when I’m trying to get ready for work!
        Any advice would be great

Haha, sounds like they’ve descended. There’s really no harm in taking him in even if they haven’t. Usually it’s good to do a well-visit/get to know your vet before getting your bunny spayed/neutered. If you haven’t read the HRS’s FAQ they have a lot of handy questions you can ask to help you determine whether or not a vet is rabbit-savvy

Best of luck to you and your boy on his surgery

That does sound like “boy bits”, but as MD said, the vet will most likely want to see him prior to setting up the surgery, so he will confirm this. Good luck!

                Hi, thanks for the answers.
My vet has met him twice for other reasons, and I’ve used the vet with previous buns so I know he’s good with rabbits it’s just quite far from when I live so don’t want to take bailey until he’s ready as I have to travel by public transport and it can be quite distressing.
Yeah they look like that but darker, more a purple than that soft pink.

The size and colour does vary… That’s quite normal… The wing shape is pretty standard once they drop… Before that it is usually just thumb sized patches of pink skin.

Oh, ok. Well, give the vet a call today then and maybe they can get you set up. :o)

One can’t always tell if they’ve descended. Bunnies can pull there balls back up into their bodies to protect them (actually I think it’s true for all mammals,) so seeing them isn’t guarantied even in fully mature bunnies.

Porky, who we didn’t neuter, hangs low at home and they are quite obvious, especially in hot weather. However, when he’s at the vet and nervous about being poked and prodded his balls completely disappear.
