Bouncy Tofu just died

My 5 month old bouncy Binky bunny Tofu just died. He was perfectly well yesterday, but was refusing food/water/hay this morning. Would not move. To make a Long story short, after going to the vet, no diagnosis was found. He was started on Metacam, Baytril and sub-q fluids as well as Oxbiw critical care. 20 minutes after getting home with him, he died. I don’t know what happened, and will likely never know. I just wanted to share his story so he may be remembered. He was a lovely, playful huggy bunny. We are all shocked and deeply saddened. He will be missed by his human family, who loved him dearly, (and spoiled him too!), as well as his brother Butterscotch who he was recently bonded to, and got lots of cuddles from, and his sister Shadow, who was just spayed and received liters of licks from Tofu when she came home from her surgery. So very sad.

Even though you had him such a short time, I am sure he felt very loved, and even though he is gone now, he is watching over you from the rainbow bridge.

I know the feeling, I really am so sorry Unfortunately there’s nothing any of us can say to make the pain go away, it’s all just a natural part of grieving. But Tofu had a lovely life with you, and he will be thankful that his mamma was there in the end and that it was quick. You did your very best for him, that’s all anyone can ask of you xx

I’m so very sorry about the passing of Tofu. He was obviously well loved and will be remembered in your heart forever.

I know your pain as a very similar situation happened to a young bun I had. Even if they are only with you for a short time, they really don’t take long to steal your heart.

I am so sorry to read about little Tofu.
You gave him a loving home and the best care possible. Many bunnies die mysteriously and abruptly and we often never know why. Some have undetectable heart conditions, or other causes they are just born with. He had a sweet life with you as long as he could. Hug his siblings and comfort them.

Thank you all for your kind words. I had to stop reading a couple of days ago, as it kept reminding me of how much I miss my little Tofu.

It is heartwarming to know there are so many of you out there who understand. Thank you again.

My children and I decorated a beautiful box for Tofu- they sent messages of love with drawings of a binkying Tofu. We lined the box with Timothy Hay, put pictures of Tofu with Shadow and Butterscotch inside (my daughter said that way, when he goes to heaven, he’ll have the other two to play with…), some raisins, dried papaya, pellets, Tofu’s favorite paper towel roll chew toy, an applewood stick and a piece of romaine lettuce. We put Tofu inside on top of Butterscotch’s stuffed bear. He lolls like he is asleep being cuddled by the teddy. Peace.

so sorry for your loss! thats so scary, I have heard quite a bit about rabbits suddenly dying and no one knows why. Best of luck with the two remaining rabbits and its good to read that they are doing well together.

Irina, I just want to offer my belated condolences. So sad to lose one of your young bunnies.
I hope having Butterscotch and Shadow in the home helps you and the family. What your children did for Tofu in laying him to rest is incredibly sweet. <3

Thanks for the belated good wishes Hannah & JG. You know- seeing Shadow and Butterscotch in their final habitat- the one I had planned out for the three if them when I got them- I can’t help feeling Tofu’s absence… The week after we lost him, I received a package that I had forgotten about in the process- it is a 24″x24″ tower bed that I had custom made so the three of them could flop together…). I still cannot look at a black bunny with dry eyes. Love my bouncy Tofu.

My precious Bun has the same EXACT story as your sweet Tofu…only difference was he was 10 months old. It is truly heartbreaking to get them to the vet, think you’ve gotten the help you need for them only to have them pass moments after arriving home 🙁 I know how you are feeling…I cried for days and days…now I have fond memories of my Bun and have put the bad out of my head….they resurface once and a while but I try to think about the good times…your Tofu was here for much to short of a time but he was loved and that’s really all that matters…((((hugs to you)))) hopefully Tofu and my Bun are playing together at the bridge!
