Bought the brush….

I don’t think mine like it.  Eddie’s usually not one to sit still for long, but occasionally he’ll like me to brush him for maybe a minute.  He hops off as soon as he sees this one.   I tried using it on Lolli and well, she doesn’t like any grooming really.  She has little tufts sticking up all over her like spikes cause she won’t let me pet her or anything.  But she seemed to not like it too. 

I’m being gentle when I use it too and I just don’t think they like it.  I bought the knock off furminator at Petsmart and they seem to tolerate that better.  Sooooooo…..if anyone wants the brush, just email me and I’ll mail it to you cause it’ll just sit around here.  It does work really well.  Better than others I’ve tried, but I won’t subject them to it if they truly don’t like it.

The Hairbuster brush.

I think it might pull on their loose tufts and maybe that’s why they don’t like it. I don’t know. Darn picky Disapproving Rabbits! LOL

Man, and here I was about to buy one after the rave reviews. :/

Is the one they like better rubbery? We had a rubber one for our cats previously but didn’t do much.

No, the one they didn’t seem to mind was the Bamboo brand knock off furminator brush at petsmart. I got the smallest size. It has metal teeth too so I don’t get what the difference is. LOL The rubber ones or soft bristled ones have never done much for me either.

Don’t get me wrong – this is a great brush. It does get the loose fur out really well. Even better than the furminator. Mine don’t like being brushed by anything in general. I was just hoping they would tolerate this one as they do the other. lol I might give it a few more tries. Like I said, I noticed it does tend to pull a teensy bit on the tufts and they HATE it when I pluck at them and it kind of mimics that, so that’s probably why they don’t like it. LOL

This is the furminator and the knock off one is almost identical and less that half the cost. Petsmart doesn’t show the bamboo brand version online, so they might not carry them anymore. ??? But the teeth on this and on the hairbuster are both kind of sharp so you have to be careful and gentle when using both. which is why i don’t get what their problems are with the hairbuster. LOL

You might want to give it another go when they’re more receptive. Do you sit them on something high or brush them down on the floor? Does the hairbuster come with a guide how to use it? Someone mentioned you don’t run it thru like a normal comb.

I don’t think you will find a brush that your rabbits are going to like. Mine hate brushing. However this brush does a great job of pulling out the fur gently. The other brushes I’ve tried just don’t get the job done.

It said something about going sideways and then brushing normally. Maybe I’ll try that. I’ll try it again. I was just disappointed cause it worked really well and they ran away. LOL With the other brush, Eddie actually nudged it and came back for more, so he did enjoy it. I brush them on the floor. Sometimes I take Lolli into the bathroom cause she doesn’t like the linoleum and wants me to hold her. So brushing them on a table works better? Makes sense. Just didn’t really think about it too much cause I figured mine would probably try to jump off and I don’t want them to hurt themselves. I’m a paranoid bunny mom.

In my experience, you HAVE TO get them out of their territory for grooming. I put a bath towel on our bathroom counter and groom them up there. The height will frighten them into sitting still for as long as you need.

And like Sarita said, it’s not a matter of what they LIKE (b/c it’s unlikely they’ll LIKE ANYTHING) but rather a matter of what works the best in the shortest amount of time.

Grooming isn’t enjoyable for the majority of buns, but it’s necessary… and for a rex-furred rabbit, I don’t think you’ll find anything better than the hairbuster.

 

Edited to add:  For grooming on a table or counter, it works better if you are situated in a corner.  In our bathroom, the counter has a wall on the back (obviously) and on the right hand side.  So the only modes of escape are the front (where I am standing and blocking with my body) and the left side, where I use my left arm to hold bunny securely while I brush with my right hand.

If I groom mine anywhere but on a high surface they can’t get to by themselves they bite at the brush throw it or run off.

I have a stool I groom mine on.   They behave very good up there.  

Try that b4 you give up on the brush. 

If you dont’ want it I would love to have another one let me know.            But try this other idea first.

Ok! I never use my dining table for anything except collecting junk. lol So once I get that cleaned off, I’ll grab a towel and park one of them up on it and brush them. At least the first time, they’ll be a bit scared cause they’ve never been on the table. I am also having spinal problems at the moment and need to sit anyways.

I just try to respect their wishes so I don’t force them to let me groom them unless they are really molting. (Eddie likes to bite and Lolli hates being touched.) They continuously shed, but do have molts and that’s when I try to brush them more so they don’t ingest all the fur. Plus, I’ve had some hefty vet bills with Lollipop so I’m absolutely paranoid about them getting hurt or sick or anything. Plus, I’m not too bright sometimes. LOL It took me months to realize if I don’t want them peeing/pooping while they were eating hay, I should just put the hay in the litter box to begin with instead of on the floor. Seriously. hehe
