Both buns flopped! *thump!*

Milestone event tonight – for the first time since they moved in with me, both Panda and Fernando have done classic ‘bunny flops”! They may have done them when I’m away from home before, but this evening I saw them both blissfully flop out for the first time. First Fernando – I missed the dramatic move, but one moment he was sitting up, the next he was lying still with one pair of legs in the air in the classic pose and only the twitching of his ears and nose indicated he was among those present. Then an hour or so later, right as I was typing a post, I noticed an abrupt movement out of the corner of my eye, and Panda, sitting in the exercise pen, had decided to join the fun. I had my phone to hand and was about to take a picture, but that little spotted diva of mine changed her pose to a bunny-rug as I was aiming.

 

Obviously I’m doing something right if both buns are starting to go *flop*! Panda is generally the one who bunloafs the most; Fernando prefers to sit up in the classic bunny pose, sometimes with ears up, sometimes with ears laid back. That being said, he just briefly bunny-rugged before returning to classic sitting.

Theres actually nothing better than seeing a bunny flop. My reaction was so excitable when my bunnies first did it that now my children think that it calls for an announcement every time they do it. I could be in another room and I’ll have one of them run in whispering “look mummy the bunnies are all flopped out”.

That’s great! There is so much satisfaction in seeing a flopping bunny, who must be thinking “ahh life is good”

Last night during bonding, Ophelia did a grand and dramatic flop right in front of Quincy, and proceeded to groom his ears from sideways flop position! How lovely he thought that was, as he snuggled into her side and closed his eyes for some relaxing cuddle time.

According to “The Language of Lagomorphs” website, another happiness signaler is the “shudder”, a quick little shiver of the body and ears that’s close to, but not quite, a sitting binky. Fernando exhibited one this evening at suppertime – he took a brief break from nomming the greens to come out into the X-pen and hop/run around, did a very unusual high skip or jump, and then went into a quick little shudder from eartips to tailtip, and then hopped/ran back into the condo to get back to eating.
