so… i was just looking for some opinions on oxbow botanical hay. i was at the feed store(buying grain/hay/ and bedding for the horses) and they  have a small pet section. mostly its treats but they have good pet hay. all oxbow. i was going to get botanical but i wasn’t sure if he would like it. herbs in it, right? sounds yummy but i didn’t want to waste money so i went with brome. a classic . sorry if this message is a bit scattered… im singin along with my country music playlist so my brain is sort of split

who likes out with my boots on by randy houser? i do!

Hi, bc, I like country music a lot but I can’t place that one without hearing it.

Anyway, the thing about bunnies and kinds of hay is that they have varied tastes. So, you kind of go through several wasted samples of the stuff until you find one your bunny tells you he likes. By eating it. More than once. But then, you can end up with lots of hay he’s rejected, and you just can’t predict. I would get the smallest amount possible.

BB, would you ever consider selling a hay sampler? It could be a handful of each type of hay you sell, and could come in a box of small bags. That way we could all try a sampler and get whatever our bunnies prefer in larger quantities later.

The botanical hay from Oxbow is expensive in my opinion. It’s just timothy hay with added dried flowers. I think you should go with what you know Buttons will eat and looks fresh.

they wanted 4.99 i thought it was alot. buttons is very picky and thats what i feared-i would waste my money because he wouldnt want to eat it. the only types he likes are 1st cutting timmy, bluegrass, and brome. he doesn’t like much change oh and the hay samples sound like a good idea.

but seriousley…flowers? thats it? they made it sound so yummy!

max and penny aren’t thrilled with botanical hay. orchard grass and timmy hay is their favorites. but yes, BB, i would TOTALLY buy a hay sampler like that!!

My boys love botanical hay. The dried flowers are their favorite part but unfortunately the flowers are only on the top of the bag, not mixed it.

You could make your own version of “botanical hay”.  I also have parrots and have purchased numerous type of healthy treats for them- and I just ordered some Goldenfest brand hibiscus flower and Chamomile flower to give the bunnies- even though it is marketed for birds.  I have not gotten the package yet to try it with the bunnies.

But any treat that is prepared for parrots but OK on the bunny list if fine for bunnies.  Goldenfeast has a whole line of dried fruits, veggies, herbs and unusual nuts.  Kirby- my parrot- loves the mini-fils (which are little, cute mini filberts) and I ordered the whole anise to try for him since I had never seen it before.

The treats are usually only $2-4 but the bags are small- but top quality and healthy.

KatipCezy – Oh the flowers are the best part of the botanical hay – great tip!

I give the botanical hay to my buns as a treat. But I will try ordering the flowers!
