Anyone have any ideas for small toys/activities to keep a bunny occupied while in her crate?

Lucy seems to be starting to get restless during the day while I am at work. When she’s “free-ranging” through my house, she manages to entertain herself by racing, and looking out the window, and exploring new areas, but I think she’s bored in her cage.

It’s like 3ftX4ft dog crate (with plastic bottom) and she’s in it from about Midnight-7am, and then again from 10am-5pm.  It seems like she sleeps through most of those times, but lately when I wake up or come home from work she has DESTROYED her cage.

I really wish I could put a diggy box in there, because it seems like her current perogative is to take everything from her litter box and put it on the ground, and everything from the ground into her litter box, but there just isn’t enough room for a diggy box.

Right now she just has a litter box, and then a blanket for sleeping on. The hay and water are both hung on the wall.

Oh I also have a store bought chewy toy…almost like a keychain that hangs from the side of the wall that has pieces of wood on it to chew and a bell at the bottom. We bought that the day we brought her home and she has never once even touched it. She’s more into “problem solving” then just chewing for chewings-sake.

Maybe I should just get a bigger crate?

You could try building your own cage out of NIC cubes, or an x-pen. I have both for my buns, and they enjoy it I have a couple shelves in the NIC cage for them to jump on, and the x-pen gives lots of run around room when they can’t be out in the rest of the apartment.

Keep the crate and get an xpen to attach and expand the cage when you’re not home. That will more than double her running/playing space and you’d have plenty of room for various toys and activities… The xpen can be folded up and put out of the way (or just opened to the rest of the home) when it’s her free range time.
