I have looked a bit on this forum to help answer my question but I have tried EVERYTHING with my angora rabbit. He is not caged so he is more like a cat in my apartment than a rabbit, except quieter. I have had him for a little over a year now so I’m not a new bunny owner and I consider myself to be quite educated with the care and really dedicate a lot of time and money to make this little stinker as happy as possible.

Anyway, Mr. Whiskers seems to NOT like any type of toys. I have tried every type of toys, he’s not big on phone books, baby toys, bird toys, cat toys, balls, paper towel rolls, etc. He is a happy bun and can always be seen during the night hours having a binky fest or jumping up and down on the couch or my bed or to say hello to my guinea pigs in the other room. He also LOVES to flop down in front of the TV and watch it (which he’s dosing off to right now lol).

My concern is that his mind may not be stimulated. I try to create obstacles for him for example I’ll hide a papaya tablet (which he will do ANYTHING for) in a ball of hay or something like that so he has to work for it, which he will for a little bit but then he’ll just give up.

Do you all think his lifestyle is okay? I can’t afford to adopt another bunny right now and any animal I have babysat in my apartment he does NOT like.  Any animal in his territory is just an accident waiting to happen so when I do get another bun, we really have to find a perfect match but I’m just hoping for right now he isn’t bored or depressed because I see so many videos or hear stories about how people’s rabbits will play with toys and what not.

I know every rabbit is very different and they can have very unique personalities but I just wanted to make sure I’m doing everything right.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate any reply

Some buns just don’t want to play. If he’s binking, he’s happy. Don’t worry too much about it.

You can try some other things too. the one that had me amazed is that a bun’s favorite toy was an egg whisk. All I could think was “how’d they find THAT out?”

Many times free range bunnies are like….”yeah, yeah, yeah…been there, done that”. Sounds like he is very happy, but if you want to keep trying check out the our “Toy Test Section” for continuing home-made toy ideas.

Another thing you can do to stimulate his mind is instead of giving pellets and greens in a dish, hide them throughout the place so his natural foraging instincts kick in. You may at first have to just place them closer together so he gets he has to move a bit to get to the next small pile, and over time separate them more and make them a bit more challenging.

            Keep us updated!

Mr. Whiskers! i love the name! i agree with what’s been said. it sounds like he’s happy and not all buns will actively play with toys. you are aware that there are different ways they play (digging, chewing, flinging, chewing, exploring, did i mention chewing?) so if you try and stimulate those specific needs, you might find something he likes. is he destructive in your home, or otherwise appear bored? if not, he might just be perfectly content hanging out.

welcome here. we also love bunny pics (esp. angoras!) so if you have any you’d like to share….

Thank you so much you! I’m going to try hiding some food, keep him a little busy lol. I think he may just be one of those bunnies who are happy just hanging out. He’s really not destructive at all. He has chewed some wires before but that was my fault for not thinking like a bunny! I’ll find some pics I have of the little stinker and post them!

yeah piccies please I love angora pics. what kind of angora.

I had a bun that didn’t play either. HE just hung out .  They have different personalities.  Seems angora’s are very mellow buns. I have a French Lop he is sooo laid back. I heard him this morning chewing his cardboard box. Thats about all he does for entertainment. And that occassionally.

You probably have a very mellow content bunny. Seems he likes to run and binky and jump that is good for him.

Its funny that you asked this question – as I have been on a quest this past week to find a toy Coco will play with – and Like you, I was not having any success. The only thing she DID like was chewing on the curtains ( which became chewing on the satellite cord) although she had willow balls, toilet paper rolls with hay and a raisin hidden inside, seagrass mats. She did show some interest in pinecones ( throwing them) but not any other type of ball.

Last week, I had some builder’s tube cut into tunnels for her ( now attracting about 12% interest – occasionally) and bought a large Oxbow timothy bungalow. She has started to direct her chewing attention to it.

The only thing that held her attention for a few minutes was the paper bag with hay and a couple pieces of dried papaya inside. But she doesn’t enthusiastically keep at it – she can smell the papaya and WANTS it…but doesn’t really want to work all that hard for it.

I ordered the binkybunny maze and am hoping that she will take to that.

I love seeing the videos of the buns ( like Jack and Rucy) tearing and throwing that grass ball…
