        Hey!

Bella had her check up at the vets today. They are unfortunately upping her dose of loxicom to twice daily… She is really struggling with her limp even with a daily dose so were trying to tackle it a couple of ways now.

Due to this she is basically peeing down her leg due to her inability to squat correctly. This is causing her behind to get quite dirtt with urine and putting her at risk if urine scald. The vet suggested daily cleaning with wipes and occasional shaving of the heavily stained areas.

My question is – does anyone know any good and effective booty cleaning techniques? I heard mention of bum baths and sand baths but not sure how these work.

        Thanks!

There are some suggestions/pictures/descriptions here of rabbit-safe ‘bathing’ methods: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Bathing_rabbits

In tandem with those techniques, I recommend trying to find flooring that will pull moisture away as quickly as possible and not stay stagnant as a puddle on the ground. Personally, I’ve found Sheepette to be amazing at this.

I second the Sheepette recommendation! I just set up my senior’s pen with it (after wick’s recommendation) and it’s wonderful.

Also, if you do need to do a bum bath, this video shows how to do it safely: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UcoZHBlQ80

I think folks with disabled buns will usually do bum baths about once a week.

Thank you both so much! Thats super helpful!

That link is great Wick, i will definitely try the cornstarch bath!

And the YouTube video is very helpful Dana!

I guess a wet bath is something I could consider periodically for her, although im not really sure how to tell what would warrant a wet bum bath. She does get pretty much soiled down her leg and bum with urine but she can still eat her cecals so isn’t getting a poopy butt.

I think in your case the main concern is urine scald.

You might also check out some of the resources on diasbledrabbits.com , they have a section on bathing: http://www.disabledrabbits.com/baths–cleaning.html
