I haven’t updated you guys lately on how Acorn and Henri are doing. They have still been having meetings. I haven’t been terribly consistent with them though. I was REALLY busy the weekend before Christmas and then there was Christmas of course so they didn’t get to interact too much this week. This weekend though, I woke up Saturday morning to discover that I have two houdini bunnies! When I went to bed on Friday, Henri was securely in his cage, and Acorn in his enclosure. When I woke up, they were cuddled up next to eachother on my lovesac! It seems that Acorn figured out that he could climb the NIC cubes to get out and Henri decided he was going to chew through a zip tie in order to join his buddy. I let them stay out and together almost all day because they were doing really well. There really is not any fighting with them, my only concern is all the mounting! I am sure that this can be expected with two non-neutered (but soon to be neutered!) boys, but I don’t know how to tell when enough is enough I guess.

They are not pulling out eachothers hair or anything, just doing a lot of circling and stuff. Sometimes it seems like Henri just wants to chill out but Acorn will still be running around him in circles. If it doesn’t bother Henri, should I just let it go or is this a bad sign? They do just lay down and cuddle up sometimes, but more often, they follow eachother around.

I am thinking about moving Henri down to the basement but I am not sure if I should do that yet. If I did, it would be in his own seperate setup from Acorn’s of course. If I can get them bonded, the basement would end up being their permanent home.

If there is no fighting I think I would continue to let them stay together when you can monitor them. They really sound like they are fine since Henri is such a chilled out rabbit. Acorn is obviously the more high-strung of the two. But it sounds like they want to be together and are interested in each other.

When are you getting them neutered?

I actually need to call later today to set up an exact date. I am planning on trying to get them both done at the same time, hopefully towards the middle of January. It will be calmed down at work by then (I work in accounting so end of the year is INSANELY BUSY) so I will be able to take off a day or two to make sure everything goes ok. Would you take off the day the surgeries are actually done or just the few days after?

Sure sounds like they want to be together from their night time escapade!  Sure is funny though.  I only have one bun and would love to get another but I need to get Edson’s situation under control.  Do 2 bunnies always mount each other if they are bonded?  Not sure I want that going on! I really want Edson and the cat (and the dog for that matter) to be friends but Edson is too chicken to venture out much. He’s afraid of the goofy friendly dog.  Goes bolting off to his cage when she comes sniffing.

Usually the males bounce right back after the surgery unlike the females who take about 48 hours, but if I were to take a day off it would be the next day since the majority of the day they have the neuter they will be at the vets office until you pick them up. Doing them both at the same time too is wise.

LOL, neither Henri or Acorn is scared of the cats, they like to chase them in fact! I am not sure if two bonded bunnies always mount eachother. I think mine do it mostlty because they are both unneutered males.

One of my pairs (2 spayed females) – Twizzler mounts Toffee when she gets excited.

I also had another pair at one time – the female netherland dwarf (Grace) would mount Snoopy’s head and he didn’t mind one bit.

Sometimes mounting is due to excitement, sometimes it’s stress (bonded pair going to another location other than their home base). It’s not always dominance.

I may have missed this but how old is Henri and Acorn? I have 2 unnuetered males (just found out our baby female is a boy!) and they are 2yrs and 2 months old. I think I’ll let them on both sides of the baby gate to see first how they do and take it from there. I was afraid of their testostrone to bond them being being altered but yours seem great together, I hope mine have the same outcome!

Henri is ten months old and Acorn is a little over a year I think. I am not sure exactly on Acorn because his previous owners really didn’t even remember when they got him, just that they thought it was about a year ago.

I was planning on not letting my boys meet until they were both fixed already but Acorn decided he didn’t want to wait one day and came upstairs to say hi. I think I just got really lucky with my two. Henri is a very calm rabbit for his age so I am sure that helped me out some too.

I’ll have to let them say Hi and see how they do. Mr.B is a mellow guy but he’ll get his bursts he and there and Roxy is calm but also energetic and very curious. It’d be nice to have them play together since Mr.B lounges all day and “roxy” was used to her mom and sibiling and loves attention. Thank you for letting us know about your bonding this is a story I am hopeful for myself! I hope your boys keep up the peace!
