I recently adopted a 10-year-old female rabbit from a really terrible home.
She lived in one of those outdoor farm cages with the wire bottom for her entire life. She’s been on really horrible quality food, her nails are overgrown, her fur is in patches. She’s also completely deaf.
She’s been vet checked, placed on medication for her skin, and is already doing SO much better in my home (I’ve had her about 2 weeks). Unfortunately, she’s too old to be spayed without risking any serious complications, so the vet and I have decided to just leave her unfixed.
Last night, a co-worker of mine asked if I would take his bunny. She’s 10 months old, and seems to have had adequate care. I picked her up this morning, took her right to the vet to be spayed and vet checked, and I am picking her up this afternoon.
My questions for all of you experienced rabbit owners, is what you would think about bonding these two bunnies?
I am happy to keep them both separated, but if it would give them a better life, I’d love to be able to get them together as well.
Does anyone have any tips on this type of situation? Or should I just leave the older bun be and find a younger mate for the other bun?
