        Hello!

I have a dwarf/rex bunny at home right now she is spayed and super lovely. I wanted to get her a friend so she doesn’t seem so lonely all the time. I was searching online and a lady was looking to give away her rabbit (because she is unable to care for her anymore). So I decided to adopt her rabbit she is around 3years old, dwarf ,and not spayed. I have already booked the spay for Feb 2021 which is around 3 months away. I have the rest of the month off from work for the holidays so I was hoping to bond them, so I was wondering should I attempt to bond them now or should I just wait till after the spay? I will appreciate any bonding advice for 2 female rabbits too!!

Thank you for rescuing a bun and planning to spay her. 🙂 It would be best to wait until after her spay. Hormones in intact females can make it very hard to bond them properly, so it would likely be lots of stress without much pay-off.

She’ll need 2 weeks to heal, and then it can take a bit of time for hormones to settle after spaying, so if you try dating them and it doesn’t go well, wait a bit longer and try again.

Other than that the advice is the same for any other pairing. If you are new to bonding check out the bonding section under “bunny info” at the top of the page, it has lots of helpful tips. 🙂 Pre-bonding can be really helpful, and I find I am a lot less stressed when each rabbit has a decent housing situation and I feel good about how they will exercise. You’ll also want to have a good neutral space planned to work with them in. Small or large spaces can work well, depending on the bunnies, so I would plan to try whatever is most convenient first. But if it doesn’t seem to be going well experiment with the space a bit.
