As a new bunny owner, I am on a steep learning curve but feeling proud of my progress ?

I just have a question that keeps coming up for me and it would be great to hear your views.

Everything I read says that rabbits must be neutered/spayed before they can be bonded. I have read some advice that says that unneutered/spayed bunnies are not bonded – even if they seem to be getting on well.

But how would this work in the wild? Because I have read that in the wild, rabbits can pair up and bond for life. How can it be that bonding is impossible with unfixed pet rabbits but that it works in the wild?

Sorry if this is a stupid question – just interested.

        Thanks!

          Thats a really good question!
My only guess would be that it is the same sex they bond with?? Or the female puts the male in place haha.

I know in domesticated bunnies, they will reproduce like crazy if they are not fixed.

In the wild, rabbits have extremely short life spans. I read somewhere that a cottontail has an average lifespan of 6 months.

They also mate constantly. Obviously with domestic rabbits we aim to stop them having babies constantly which is why neutering is important.

We also have higher expectations of welfare. It’s pretty likely that pairs in the wild still fight over territory etc but we don’t know about it, because no one cares if a wild rabbit has a torn ear for example.
