So we finally decided on a day to start the process, we were very nervous as we know bunnies may fight horribly during bonding…but we got a bit of a surprise. Would appreciate any advice people feel may help or any opinions on how we/they are doing.
Bonding session 1: In upstairs room, fair amount of space and some hay. They sniffed each other and both demanded grooming. Binky chased Winnie once and grabbed fur from her bum. We split them for a minute to calm them and let them get on with it again. Just more sniffing and exploring the new room. 40mins
Session 2: Pretty much spent the whole time sniffing each other, demanding grooming and eating hay together. Both seem relaxed around each other and can sit, loaf or flop at ease. 40mins
Session 3: Much the same. Asked a friend and she said try no hay and a smaller space so that they have to interact with each other. 30mins
Session 4: Tried out friend’s suggestions. They sat head against head for a few minutes solid having some sort of bunny ‘discussion’. Winnie eventually just sat up and groomed Binky’s head. She did this a few times and even flopped on the floor in front of him. Given a bit more time she groomed his ears. Almost an hour.
Session 5: We moved to his territory. They are quite content to be in each other’s company but theres no real interaction going on again. At one point Winnie was hogging the hay and Binky went to hump her head but I had to stop him because they were in an awkward place and I didn’t want them falling off. Plus he went to hump her head and I’m not sure how I feel about that after hearing about boys getting their bits chomped off by fed up girl buns. She even went in his cage and litter tray and he really wasn’t that bothered by it. 2 hours.
Session 6: Back in upstairs room, Both lounged on the floor together, although Binky is demanding attention she only gave him a tiny little lick. We moved them back down to his area for their free time and Binky needed a little persuasion to come out of his cage. He seems a little subdued and quiet. They are both fine with each other’s company again though. Winnie has been doing bunny zooms all over the place. Towards the end of this session Winnie is cleaning Binky again! Yay! 2 1/2 hours.
