Does anyone have a bonded pair that are completly different sizes? Wilbur (female) is 3 pounds and when she sits in a standard shoe box she only takes about up about half of it, Totoro (male) is 6 1/2 pounds but almost 3 times her size length and height wise, I’d say his length is the same length as my cat almost. Would this make it more likely that Totoro would hurt Wilbur?

Also, how long should I wait after Wilbur’s spay to start bonding them? I’ve been thinking one month but I realized I just kind of came up with that on my own without any facts (maybe because it can take a month for the hormones).

          At least a month.

I have seen flemish giants bonded with dutches and nethies, so size doesn’t matter

Oh man I almost posted this EXACT thing, right now Samson and Lady are about the same size, but by the time she’s spayed she’ll outweigh him 3 to 1. I *really* want to bond them now, because they scuffle through the gate and I can only imagine Lady will do so much worse damage if they do that when she’s a tank. I’ll be watching this for advice!

It doesn’t look like it since Wooly has mountains of fur but Wooly is actually half the size (weight-wise) of Leopold. They are both small rabbits though, so I suppose it isn’t as dramatic as seeing a netherland with a flemish. They are opposite in appearance though. Wooly has long hair, short ears, and blue eyes. Leopold has short hair, long floppy ears, and brown eyes. They are both black and white.

                Thanks for responses!

LBJ10: Was it an easy bond? I’m worried that Totoro might like jump on Wilbur’s back and hurt her.

Sam and Lady’s Human: Heehee Hope this helps you too! I’m worried about damage too

Yes, it was a very easy bond. I had read all this terrible stuff about bunnies fighting and not liking each other, but it turned out I had nothing to worry about with my boys. Leopold just humped the crap out of Wooly and Wooly just sat there and took it. After Leopold had it all out of his system (just a few days), they started grooming each other. They have never once fought and have been pretty much inseparable.

Size doesn’t matter at all. A small bunny can dominate a huge one – it’s all about attitude and personality, not size. If they were to get in a fight, I think the smaller bunny would stand a better chance of getting away from the larger one anyway.

*nods at Elroh* My rabbits are 4.2 pounds and 6.4lbs and boy oh boy does Stickers (the smaller one) get away from Powder anytime she doesn’t want him near her. She is the hare to his tortoise. Mine were pretty easy to bond and size doesn’t bother them at all. Powder had a humping problem too, but Stickers had none of it and would run from him, so it was about a week and a half of run/chase/run/chase/try to ambush hump/run/chase then they just liked each other and that was that. Stickers has made it quite plain the best flop/sleeping spots are HERS though and Powder made it clear he gets to eat first, so not sure what would have happened if either of them tried to disagree on those points. lol
