I’m currently on a mission to find a rabbit to bond Jackson with. I’ve found a few in rescues that are a few hours away that are spayed and that I am interested in, but there is one who is only an hour away who is unable to be spayed that I just can’t stop thinking about. Another reason I would like to adopt her specifically is that she is at a place that normally only takes in dogs and cats and I’m not sure how experienced they are with rabbits.

I have fallen in love with her and would really like to pick her up, but the whole point of getting another rabbit is for Jackson to have a friend and if they can’t be bonded then I would like to look elsewhere.

I’m not worried about time, I’m fine if it takes a little longer to bond I am very patient. But just wondering how you guys felt about it.

If they are not experienced with rabbits, its possible she can be spayed but they dont know how to go about that.

Note, if she is hormonal, she will likely not be able to bond with Jackson. Hormonal rabbits should be kept alone. But, not all intact rabbits act hormonally.

            Why can’t she be spayed?

It is possible to bond an unspayed rabbit to a neutered or spayed rabbit. I have done it. But it really depends on the rabbit.

Curious as to why a female cannot be spayed. There’s a high probability that a female rabbit will die of uterine cancer before 5 years of age. A veterinarian refused to spay my previous rabbit, Bunny, because she was too fat. Found a vet who performed a liposuction and spayed her. She was 9 pound before the spaying, and 8 pounds afterwards! He didn’t charge all that much for the liposuction….maybe a couple of hundred dollars.
