Hey everybunny I have a simple question. It’s been 2 weeks since my bunnies spay/neuter it’ll be 3 weeks on Tuesday I really want to bond my bunnies on week 3 but I know you have to wait 4-6 weeks after surgery for their hormones to die down, will it be cruel if I bond them on week 3? I was planning on bonding them the 4th week but I just want to know if I can do it 1 week early? I don’t want to be cruel to my bunnies but I want to see what your opinions are. Would it be ok go bond them on week 3?

It depends on if they are boys or girls. If one is a boy and the other is a girl, wait until at least week 4 (bucks can be fertile for a little while after they are neutered; i don’t know if its same with does, but better safe than sorry). I have successfully bonded unspayed does, so if they are both does, it should not be a problem to start introducing them now. Same with boys, but be very careful and ready to break them up if it takes a bad turn. Bucks can and will injure/kill each other if their hormones are strong enough.

Well it depends if they’re acting hormonal still. If so, no you should wait. If you start bonding and they start acting hormonal, stop and wait.

            Have you been pre bonding?

Yes I’ve been pre-bonding they lick and groom each other through the bars of the cage but that doesn’t mean they won’t fight face to face. I have a tiny room so I wasn’t able to have a 6 inch space between their cages so I just had to make one big cage and split it in half. I don’t think they are acting hormonal.

I’ve read that the big reason to wait is that a bond can be broken when the hormones change, so even if it’s successful now, a few weeks later might be an issue.I’d wait for sure.

It also takes a while for hormones to die down, especially female ones. Just wait 4-6 weeks. I know it seems long, but slow and patient and steady is the name of the bonding game. Go too fast and you could end up with grudge holders.
