Hmmm, well, in either case (male or female), you will need a backup plan in case bonding doesn’t work out, especially if you are unable to let your guy “choose” his own mate.
My girl Bertha always preferred males when I dated her (and she has gone on a lot of dates!), but there are several BB members with happily bonded male couples.
The safest bet would be to try to find a more local, spayed/neutered bun to try a speed date with to see if they are compatible.
If you adopt the already neutered male, it could work, but it might not, and you should be prepared to keep them separated. It really depends on their personalities, and how they interact with people has no relation to how they will interact with other bunnies.
