Bonding Male with Existing Male

I need advice on bonding for my current male rabbit. I have a 3 year old holland lop who has been neutered for over a year now. He is very relaxed and affectionate. He is cage free during the day but at night I keep in in his cage. I want to bond him with another rabbit, I know a female is the best match but I am finding it difficult to find one that is already fixed. So I have two options: 1. I can get a young female who will have to wait to be fixed and then wait even longer to be bonded due to hormones after fixing. 2. I found a male lop who is already fixed and in need of a home.

What do you guys think? Would it be better to try the female who needs to grow up and be spayed or the male who is already an adult/neutered and ready to bond?

Is it possible to take your boy on a date with the boy you are interested in before you commit to adopting him?

Male pairs can work, but it depends on their personalities. You’ll have the best chances of success if you can find a compatible bun by taking yours on some dates.

Thank you, that is good advice. However I can not take him on a bunny date with the male I had in mind because the distance is too far to drive.

Hmmm, well, in either case (male or female), you will need a backup plan in case bonding doesn’t work out, especially if you are unable to let your guy “choose” his own mate. 

My girl Bertha always preferred males when I dated her (and she has gone on a lot of dates!), but there are several BB members with happily bonded male couples. 

The safest bet would be to try to find a more local, spayed/neutered bun to try a speed date with to see if they are compatible. 

If you adopt the already neutered male, it could work, but it might not, and you should be prepared to keep them separated. It really depends on their personalities, and how they interact with people has no relation to how they will interact with other bunnies.

Ok. This is good advice so far. I’m glad I came here first. Thank you guys for helping out. I think I might wait and try to get the female bunny. Maybe I can find one that is already spayed. I just don’t know if bunny dates are possible.

I have two neutered boys I have to keep separated – one of mine does not like other bunnies and it instantly was in a full on fight at our bonding attempt
I def suggest having a back up plan if bonding does not work – if you don’t have the time or space for two seperate cages –and you are able to meet your current buns social needs with your interaction and time – then two might not be the best move for your situation (?)
