Hello, fellow bunny parents! I need some help. My husband and I have Ellie, our ~3-year-old lop mix. We rescued her when she was about 4 months old. She’s been our spoiled house bunny ever since. We’ve been considering getting her a friend for a long time, and were planning to take her speed-dating at our local shelter. However, I found out about a bunny hopping around my mom’s neighborhood on her own over the last few months. So we caught her and adopted her. We’ve had her for a little over a month. She definitely wasn’t born in the wild. She’s a beautiful Lionhead, and we thought she was a boy. Until our exotics vet told me she was actually a girl! So her name is Kevin. (Ever seen UP? “Kevin’s a girl??”) Anyway, when the doc prepped her for her spay surgery, we found out that she has already been spayed! So we decided to start bonding. I know that two females are the hardest ones to bond, but Kevin is so sweet, I can’t bear to take her to the shelter! And there really aren’t any bunny parents I know of anywhere near us. So I knew the best home for her was ours. Kevin is very friendly to us. She loves to jump into my lap for head pats and follows our every move. Anyway, back to bonding. Unfortunately, our bun has access to every room in our apartment except our bedroom, so it’s all her “territory.” She sleeps in a cage in the kitchen at night, though, so I’ve been keeping Kevin in a large X-pen in the kitchen near Ellie’s cage. But I feel terrible keeping her in there all the time! She only comes out during bonding sessions because I don’t know what she’d do in Ellie’s territory. We’ve been doing sessions in our bathtub two weeks. Things are going pretty well. Ellie really likes Kevin, and they’ve been grooming each other during sessions, but Kevin is still a little territorial. Ellie got close to her X-pen this morning and she took out a clump of Ellie’s fur (no skin attached). What can I do? I’ve done a lot of research on bonding, but it is my first time, so I’m at a loss. Help!
