Hi all,
I currently have 2 female and one male bunny (all spayed/neutered) and am looking to add a 4th rabbit to this group. They are mother and daughter/son so have lived together all their lives and have not had many – if any – problems getting along.
I have recently lost my 7 year old male (the father) who was also part of the group and got along very well with all the other rabbits, and I did have another male litter mate living with them at one point. However I’m not too sure about how accepting my male will be to another male anymore.
My question is, is it more advisable to get a male or a female to introduce to my bunnies, as I know males generally harder to bond with other males yet females can also be territorial/aggressive towards other female rabbits.
Has anyone else had experience with this sort of situation or know what is best to do to ensure all bunnies will eventually get along
thanks
Disclaimer, I have never had more than 2 at a time, but I’ve read accounts of folks with trios, quartets, and larger. I think since you already have 2 females, you should try a male. Although with a group, all bets are probably off, so it may not matter all that much! I’ve heard that bunnies that grow up with others are generally better at communicating with other bunnies, so bonding often goes more smoothly.
Good luck!
