Hi guys, I’m relatively new to rabbits (I had one when I was a kid) but have never had two.
I decided to get my female (mixed breed not sure?) a companion. A cute little lionhead cross male.
I’ve had them both spayed and neutered and they are all healed up and back to their normal binkying selves.
I just want to check in and see if this is normal and good bonding behaviour and if I’m on the track to having friends?
They’ve only had two introductions so far. I started them off with their cages next to eachother for a few weeks. Then I would let one roam around the room (usually while cleaning) while the other was in it’s own cage. Neither of them seem too interested and would once in a while go up to the other one.
The first introduction I think went well.. They mostly ignored each other. The male chased the female a few times. They then both layed down about 5 feet away from each other.
The second introduction the male was persistent in chasing the female and when got close enough would try to mount her. No aggressive behaviour from either at all but now the female will not let the male near her, she will immediately run away. She seems interested though because when he has his back to her or ignores her, she will try and come closer to see. But as soon as he turns around she runs away.
I’ve also tried them in the bathtub as well, and tried to get them to share some treats. Same thing. Ignore eachother or the chasing ensues..
Is this good or bad news? Any advice? Just keep at it? I’ve also been switching them between cages every few days so they get used to eachothers smells.
Thanks so much!
