I think you should tread very carefully when doing this – you always have to be prepared for the worst. And the worst would be ALL four buns unbond. But then who knows, you could put them all together and shockingly, with the large group dynamic they ALL do fine.
You know how much I LOVE my large group but I would definitely carefully consider the pros and cons of a larger group. In my larger group, the dynamics of who is “in charge” always seems to be changing. Which has caused a few skirmishes but nothing they didn’t stop on their own. (They’ve stopped before I needed to interfere). They also seem to build off from each others attitudes. For example, Nora used to be okay with you holding her and sitting still no matter where she was but now she refuses to be held when the other bunnies are around. I think she picked up on the Tans disliking it and started copying them because we’ve never had a problem with her until after she became friends with them all! It also means one bad behavior turns into EVERYONES bad behaviors. Nora has never chewed anything but she’ll minic the Tans when they are being bad and trying to dig into me or yank on the carpet.
BUT there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing them all snuggled together as best friends. Everyone grooms each other and everyone hangs out (although I know some buns will just kind of become BFFs with one particular bunny – that’s what happened in my quartet but has since changed since the quintet).
I would try a few dates and see how it goes before officially making a decision. Trios can sometimes be more difficult because everyone has to be friends.. but with four, they can be “best friends” with one particular bunny and be indifferent to the other ones without it mattering. But you really won’t know until you spend some time with them bonding. Also be prepared they could switch mates on you!
hahaha! Mine buns have always switched around who their “best friend” is when I added a new one!
