So I’m in the process of bonding my bonded trio with a fourth bunny.   I’ve been doing the bonding strictly in pairs.

BUT I have been googling more and more about bonding as I go along and I’ve read a lot about people throwing all four bunnies in a neutral area together and bonding from there — depending on who gets along best and who needs more work.  I’m a little leery of this way considering it seems better to establish a bond between each pair before putting them all together.  I feel like some of my bonded trio may get very angry as Tanger has shown aggression towards his bonded mates whenever he glimpses Simba running around freely.

Any thoughts from you that have multiple bonded buns?

I think it’s worth a try – it’s a totally different dynamic when you have four rabbits. Of course you and your boyfriend will have to patrol and watch in case it gets nasty.

I think it will allow you to see they dynamics and go from there.

I read on several sites that the more bunnies involved in bonding the easier it; the tension is spreadout between all of them instead of just one on one so it feels much more comfortable for the buns. THis works because a large group trigger their natural warren instincts.

I think I’m going to try and cement a solid “laundry basket” situation (grooming or cuddling) between each pair with Simba and THEN try doing a full, everybody bonding session in the kitchen where NONE of them have ever been on the floor or really in the room. I’m hoping by doing that Tanger may not be so aggressive. Although, maybe the others being okay with Simba with be easier on Tanger. Ugh, I wish they could just tell me!

Hey Tan, is Simba altered? I’m assuming your trio are.
Hows the BF doing with his allergies?

Yepp. Everyone is altered! Including newbie, Simba!

And the boyfriend is doing great! He hasn’t had any problems so we’ve successfully concluded he wasn’t allergic to the bunny. Just the timothy hay. At the time, we were such bunny noobs we didn’t realize it was the hay because he was always fine with the alfalfa. But once we switched the Tans when the vet told us too we realized he was allergic. Now with Simba in the house we know for SURE it was the hay and never was the bunny. Which is sad but I don’t think Mario would’ve worked out with Fleury anyways, now that I’ve gotten to know the dynamics of bonding. Not to mention, we introduced them in the most horrible way possible. SUCH bunny noobs then!

Also, for peace of mind: when Mario went back to the Humane Society — I found out he was adopted out with his brother together. Both had been semi-bonded and lived together… but they were so young they were okay with splitting them up. I’m happy Mario went back and was adopted out with his sibling though!

Oh no worries about Mario! That’s good to know its the hay, I have the same problem, so my husband is generally in charge of it You are having such a good experience bonding! I bet Simba is used to different bunnies so maybe he doesn’t have the same instant fear reaction as others. If my bonding was so successful I’d probably have like, 6 bunnies by now

I’m really glad we tried with Simba again. Despite thinking he may be allergic. We’ve wanted a fluffy bunny for so long. But we gave it try, no timothy hay in the house anymore. And thank God it worked like a charm!

And I know the feeling! I’m in charge of the hay almost every night as he still gets a little sniffly whenever he does their litter boxes with hay and such. So I pretty much stick to doing it so he doesn’t have to worry about it.

HAHA! 6 bunnies bonded, good Lord. I’ve been swearing this whole time — NO MORE BUNNIES. If I had to do bonding with 5, I don’t know if I could handle the stress! And every dynamic is SOO different. The laundry basket has worked PERFECT for Fleury and Simba. And Tanger doesn’t even try and nip Simba in the laundry basket. But the laundry basket sent Sidney into a fit or rage or something because she is so aggressive towards him in there! But in the bath tub she’s not nipping or anything! OY VEY.

I seem to remember a thread a few months back, where someone was bonding six rabbits. The picture of them all lined up was adorable <3

Oh goodness! That thread was a great read. I still can’t decide if I’m too nervous to stick them all together or not yet. Ugh, I really am scared too. I’m nervous it’ll send all our bonding right back to the beginning. Or even further back.

Oh my gosh how cute are the 6 of them!! Maybe the more you get the easier it is?
Samson used to be super aggressive just because she was a chicken. She actually ended up needing more space to get comfortable with Lady rather than less, and no stressors hah. She liked to be the odd duck. Lady was always like Spike on The Land Before Time, she’d just eat and lie around and go about her business while Sam was busy freaking out.
