Hello everyone! I’ve been lurking for some time now, though I have also posted a few times. I really like this forum and how it’s dedicated to house rabbit’s. I’m very new to bunny bonding, but I’ve read a lot of articles and even watched a movie on the topic. I also volunteer with a local rabbit rescue so I was able to get some great tips from them. I have two house bun’s, Dunkin and Amber. Dunkin is a handsome 1 year and 6 month old Neutered Himalayan who I adopted at age of 6 weeks. He was saved by a friend from being euthanized at a crowded shelter with his family. Amber is a beautiful 11 month old Spayed Lop Mix that I adopted when she was around 5 months old. She was part of a dumping situation, her mother was dumped into the cold snowy climate of Lake Tahoe, California when she was pregnant. Thankfully a nice lady took Amber’s mother in just in time for her to give birth! The rescue I volunteer with helped the lady out when she realized she couldn’t care for them properly, so that’s how I met and adopted Amber.
Now onto the bonding. It’s going well so far *knocks on wood* and I’m very hopeful. They’ve had three dates so far, their latest was on Valentine’s Day and went very well! It was adorable, they were the most affectionate I’ve seen so far. Cuddling, grooming, binkying, and Dunkin even flopped on his side a few times. The grooming was rough at times which I read is normal when they first start. The first date was in the bathtub, they did so well I moved them into the x-pen on the second. Sunday’s session was a little over an hour long with no fighting, just some humping from Amber. Their cages are also together, but still divided. When I feel confident enough that they have completely bonded I will be taking the divider out of their NIC cage making it a 2×6.
Here is a little something with video clips of the Sunday Valentine’s Day date. Can those more experienced in bunny bonding take a look and tell me how you think they are progressing? They have yet to show any kind of fighting, just some minor disagreements that are settled quickly.
