Bonding Buns in a new apartment.

Ok so, Ollie is getting neutered next Tuesday. Prayers are appreciated for my nerves and his recovery. Anyways! I’m moving into a new apartment the 28th and was thinking about getting a partner for Ollie since the apartment would be neutral ground for both of them. I know that his hormones won’t be gone for about a month after the neuter, and that being said I’m planning to adopt a female bunny that is already spayed.

 

Do you think this would be a good idea to do it while the apartment has not been “claimed” so to speak by either bun? Or should I wait a couple of months until Ollie has settled down?

I think it’s best to start in a new apartment. I have been trying to bond Lola in our current apartment and it’s been really SUPER difficult since she is so territorial over everything. I can’t blame her since she has had the run of the apartment since she moved here and now it’s almost like she hates the new bun just because he is taking over a small part of what she considers HER space. I really wouldn’t wait that long….but then again I’m not sure about the hormones and things – maybe trying to confine him to one space so everything is still pretty neutral when you bring a new bun in?

I’m just am speaking from my current experience — it’s not easy (/I don’t know if it’s possible with the diva of a bun I have…) bonding buns in a small apartment that’s already been claimed by a bun. Ha.

I live in a small 3 bedroom apartment that Hunny had free roam of (well she has free roam of the livingroom, diningroom, kitchen – so everywhere but our bedrooms & bathrooms) & then I brought Ash home… & yes, Hunny did see this place has “hers” and the first week or so he (Ash) couldn’t go anywhere near her pen or she’d have a $*&! fit but after living side by side for a few weeks & getting use to each other & Hunny realizing that I was gonna let Ash run around in “her” livingroom, “her” diningroom & so on that she started to mellow out. I did the bath tub dates but Hunny was WAY too unconfortable & that didn’t make for a happy bonding so we moved to the hallway (which at the time Hunny wasn’t allowed). There they got to know each other better but still living in a divided pen (a 4′ X 8′ pen divided down the middle)… anyways over time they have pretty much bonded themselves. The only reason why they aren’t lving together now is because Ash isn’t neutered yet (next week, thankfully) & all he wants to do is well… you know… lol. Hunny is 100% free roam & yesterday she discovered how to open Ash’s side & when I got home they were lying together… but then last night she wanted nothing to do with him cuz he kept trying to mount her… Anyways in my case it didn’t matter that Hunny had staked claim to the apartment… Honestly idk if it was cuz I wasn’t gonna let her bully Ash and I forced her to share OR if she just decided “hey, I like this lil’ guy… maybe I should give him a chance…”

Oh yay! That was what I was really hoping to hear… Two buns are better than one! I’ve been looking on petfinder for months hope everything goes smoothly.
