Bonding Bunnys

Hello

So i have had my bug bunny boy for 6 years, and i decided recently to get him a 5 year old lady companion. We have them in their own areas, in doors, next to each other. We let them sniff each other through the cages, and then we tried them out on the open floor.

Of course my male got very humpy, she tolerated it at first but long story short they are now at this stage – she makes him chase her around, and he is trying to mount her. She sometimes gets a bit nippy with him, and pulls his fur out. But then she goes back over to him for it all to start over again. They eventually laid down next to each other, but then they started the chasing / aggressive thing again. 1 minute they are fine, the next im scared they will hurt each other. ( they have both been neutered )

Is this normal when bonding ?

Will the chasing and nipping ware off ?

Shes not making him chase her around. She is trying to get away and he is mounting. She is nipping because she is mad and she is pulling fur because she is mad.

It sounds like shes trying to get to know him and hes pushing it way too far for her.

First off, are they both spayed/neutered? If not, that is your problem. Hormonal rabbits cannot bond correctly.

Second, you need to be stopping all aggression. Do not let him chase her and do not let her pull his fur. Both are aggression signs that can quickly become a fight if either bun becomes irritated enough. Note that angry rabbits can fight to the death… So, you need to stop all chasing and all fur pulling. Allow nipping. Allow mounting, but only for a few seconds. After a few seconds, pull the humper off the humpee.
