Bonding Bumi and Tenzin

Its been a month since Tenzins neuter so I decided to introduce my boys today. I am not altogether sure how it went .. It wasn’t bad though. 

First off when I put them down they just took off in opposite directions, I ended up having to kind of corral them in one area. They still avoided each other lol. 

Eventually they bumped into each other and Bumi wanted a good sniff of Tenzin, Then he started humping, poor Tenzin ran to me for comfort, so I detached Bumi and just petted Tenzin for a second, Then I put Tenzin back by the veggies and Bumi started humping his head … Still no reaction from Tenzin, so again I just took Bumi off, Tenzin decided to sit almost in my lap and Bumi hopped over and humped him again, Tenzin doesn’t like it, but he does not react at all, I figured that was enough for one day so I put them back and gave them a little treat. 

I let some humping happen, But I did not want anyone to get too stressed during the first intro.

Aw it sounds like it went well! My only thing is remember not to let face humping happen just in case of the not-so-rare occurrence of someone biting someone’s genitals. But you were good to let some humping happen and it’s okay that one of em ran away, just make sure not to let a chase break out because that will lead to fighting. I’d say more meetings like this in neutral territory would be a good idea until you see more of how they go about interacting with one another! Best wishes

I did stop the face humping. With Tenzins giant head Bumi had a good grip though.

No chasing was going to happen … poor baby hopped over to me with Bumi still riding him, He was just out of reach when Bumi mounted him.

I plan on a LOT more intro’s ( gradually introducing length as they are more comfortable) , before I let these boys be together for any length of time out of arms reach let alone unsupervised.

Definitely not bad for a first go! Doesn’t sound like there was any aggression at all, so hopefully it’ll go quickly and smoothly for you AND them!

I am taking it slow, I don’t want anyone to get upset enough to actually get aggressive, I have mellow males which certainly helps. I just feel bad for Tenzin. He just sits there and takes it.

Sorry, my brain is not very good lately (comes with having a baby ) but Bumi is still un-neutered? If yes, I would suggest you hold off on any bonding attempts until after he is neutered. The reason being, even if they do bond, you may to re-bond after his neuter because surging/settling hormones can cause aggression and/or a complete bond break. It’s really best to wait until both buns are neutered and completely recovered (several weeks after neuter).

Bumi was adopted neutered He has been neutered about a year now.

I would not even attempt meetings if both boys were not altered and after a safe wait time. 4 weeks is the minimum for me, if they show no hormonal issues.

Tenzin has NO idea what to do with other bunnies, he just shuts down. For this reason I keep the intro’s very very short, about 5 minutes. He is getting better, He actually approached Bumi today  

Bumi is still humping, but I don’t let him do it for too long. I don’t want this to be too stressful for either of them, and Tenzin isn’t fighting it in any way. 

Bumi has begun putting his head under Tenzin … Asking to be groomed maybe?

well he shoves it under Tenzins face … Tenzin has no idea what to do lol. They will learn.

I am just glad there has been no aggression, I knew we could have a difficult time bonding since I have two males.

So glad things are still going well…they’re so cute together! Bumi’s little white chocolate chip nose kills me – too adorable. I can’t wait to see snuggly bunny pictures.

I think the turning point for us will be when Tenzin stops shutting down during bonding.

Progress … Its not huge but its something …

Tenzin is still mostly shutting down but he has started coming out of his shell a teeny bit he sniffed Bumi and scared the crud out of him.

No humping at all today, Tenzin huddled by me, Bumi just wanted to explore.

It looks like it will be slow moving … Mostly due to the failing to acknowledge each other, but I will take this over aggression.
