         Barney is due to have a lady friend joining him sometime in the next few weeks hopefully, as long as i can find a suitable rescue who has already been neutered and isn’t too old. I guess my question is this;

        it may be how long is a piece of string … but how long(ish) should bonding Barney and his new friend take? Just roughly Thanks!

          It can be anywhere to a few days to a few weeks. Honestly lol You just never know until that time comes, sorry.

            Is Barney neutered now?

            It really depends on the rabbit’s involved so there’s no definitive timeline. Are you taking him on bunny dates? That might help you pick a bunny that will be easier to bond.

              Barney is being neutered in 6 days time That was my next question; How long will it take for him to recover? I am buying him a new huge double decker hutch x

                I think it’s usually recommended that you wait for about 30 days after neuter before bonding. My boy rabbits healed up pretty fast but it takes about a month for their hormones to level out.

                    Hey guys i was having a think over night and wondered if there would be any big differences in bonding if i got a male rather than female? Does it take longer or is there more aggression or anything? Thanks!

                      There is really no set answer to that question, since every bonding case is different. It depends much more on personality than sex. As long as they are both fixed. Are you able to take Barney on some bunny dates? That’s your best bet for finding a suitable match. Letting him pick his buddy is often a way to shorten bonding time and aggression.

                        I will certainly get any mate for Barney fixed before I was to introduce them, if not get a girl already spayed Bunny dates arent really an option due to the hours I work, so hopefully I choose a good one! As Barney is about to get a new huge double decker wooden house to sleep in at night, if I were to keep his new mate in half of the hutch that he cant access (if i were to find a suitable mate before Barney had healed) would that affect their bonding? Thanks

                          As long as they can’t bite each other through any wire or anything, I’m sure it’s fine. A lot of members keep their “to be bonded” bunnies side by side. It can help them get used to the smell of another bunny.

                            Remember that 2 bunnies need approx 4′ X 4′ at a minimum (122cm x 122 cm). Keeping them side by side should be fine as long as they don’t fight as LPT said.
