Sprocket and I have been together for about months now. I spend pretty good amount of time with him but I work 8 days straight with me being gone about 12 hours then I spend a whole week with him not really leaving.

He gives me the odd kiss here and there but my Rookie who I had for 2 years gave me kisses often. Sprocket will almost groom pillows and basically any fabric he will lick as if grooming but if I put my hand or face there he won’t do it. He will snuggle nose to nose often.

Am I doing something wrong? I am worried he may not be happy. I am actually been considering a possibility of a mate for him but I’m also very scared of the bonding and just the added cost and responsibility of another bun…especially a female since sprocket is a boy. So I want to see if we can make it work just the two of us first.

Any ideas or recommendations? I just want to make sure he is happy.

Neither of my boys are groomers, but Rookie reminds me of Bombur. I can literally lay next to Bombur for hours and kiss his cheeks and rub him all over, and he is honestly the happiest little bunny. He’ll do anything for attention. He even loves just laying on the bed with the hubs and I if we’re watching a movie and not really petting him. He’s a big tooth purrer, so he definitely will let you know he’s happy. Asriel is a lap bun, and if he’s in the mood will come lay on my chest for a solid 30-45 minutes. He’s not a tooth purrer or a groomer, but he’ll close his eyes and pancake on my lap. He’s also a big flopper. So i don’t think every bun is a groomer, even if they are happy. I think it’s honestly a part of their personality. Some might show happiness by pancaking, others by flopping, and others by grooming.

Kissing varies from rabbit to rabbit. Some will love to give kisses and groom their owners while others will never do it. It’s not necessarily and indicator of happiness, merely a shared grooming activity. You’ll know your rabbit is happy if they are generally active, eating, drinking, and curious about their surroundings. If Sprocket kisses you occasionally, that’s great! If he doesn’t, that’s okay too. The fact that he likes to snuggle nose-to-nose with you is a really great expression of his love and affection for you. It is also possible that he grooms fabrics and blankets because he thinks it is you – or another rabbit. That sensation is more like rabbit fur than your skin is, so it’s possible he thinks he is licking you if the blanket is nearby when you snuggle.

Either way, if you want to get another bunny for his company it is an option but it seems to me like he enjoys your company is his own unique way. A bunny that trusts being close to you is a very special gift.

Pancake … is that when stretched out front and back with head down? Sort of like a melted bunny? Yeah..he does that a lot. He does the loaf and superman. He sleeps on my bed stretched legs head down each night. Does the occasional binny across the room but I haven’t seen his zoomy binky madness in a while. As soon as I sort of give him a good scoop with my hands and a rub under the chin he loafs down feet in and sits and enjoys it. I try and change up his toys and surroundings a lot but he isn’t a toy playing bunny. He loves shredding stuff and knocking thinga down occasionally and he loves digging.

He sounds perfectly at bliss to me honestly, if he’s this happy, and you are spending a good amount of time with him, then he’s probably safe to stay as a single bun. He’s lucky you care so much about his happiness

And yes, that’s exactly a pancake! we get lots of those in my house. we have hardwood floors, so not many binkies and zoomies. they get scared.

is he neutered yet? he could be just mellowing out with age and not zooming as much because of that.

He was a bit of a happy humper.. . So as soon as the boys dropped he was snipped. He was a little horndogger lol he was so cute but I didn’t want it to be a habit
I have runners down for the wood so he doesn’t slip.

                      awww I’m glad he’s eavesdropping

Bombur was a happy humper too. Before I knew anything about keeping bunnies separate until neutering, I had the boys together and Bombur would get a euphoric look whenever he humped Asriel.
