So I am having some concerns about bonding my rabbit Bun Bun, a Mini Lop with health issues who cannot be spayed, to Freddy a very loving and energetic Holland Lop who is neutered. Freddy seemed to adore Bun Bun upon introduction and even tried groomed her but Bun Bun is very aggressive and would bite and nip when he got close enough. She has health issues that prevent her from being spayed so I’m sure that the problem could be her hormones/being territorial but she seems so depressed and lonely. I know she would love a companion as she had one previously but he passed away. Her companion bun who was rescued with her died from cancer about 6 months after he had been removed from the home.
She is about 3 years old and was actually a rescue bunny. Her original owners were abusive and neglectful. As a result, both of her rear legs are disabled. She is very active even without her rear legs and will use her cart to run around.
Freddy seems to have gone from avoided her and being scared to actively taunting her. He will hop around her and dash around trying to get her to chase him, and she does! But she isn’t as fast as he is and he seems to have made a game out of making her annoyed. Not sure if I should just give up at this point.
Again, before anyone tries to make a point about how I should spay Bun Bun she cannot be spayed because of her health problems. The multiple vets I have seen refuse to operate on her. Yes I understand that there are increased risks of cancer and that unspayed females are hormonal but she was bonded before so I know it can be done. I just need better techniques I guess.
