I have had Chipmunk and Hazel for about 9 months. they are litter mates and both boys. they were great with each other untill they hit puberty and I had to separate them because of fighting. my vet was trying to get them to gain a little more weight before neutering them. well then they were neutered, and I waited about 3 weeks and started to let them out in a separated area. things seemed a lttle crazy still as they grunted at each other through the fencing. then Chipmunk jumped over the fencing and attacked Hazel!! and I ran to stop them and got bit! winding up with 12 stitches in my hand!! since then I haven’t tried to bond them again, as I am afraid of another fight. any advice would help!!! my other two that are litter mates are inseparable!!! and are soooo loving to each other.

I would start over from complete scratch, make sure they aren’t around each other at all, but do start with a buddy-a stuffed animal you can move from one cage to the other so they start getting used to each other scent. Their scent is completely different after a spay/neuter and rabbits rely on scent so much they likely don’t know that they sort of know each other! So start swapping scent through a stuffed animal.

I’d progress after that was successful, i.e. they aren’t’ attacking or mercilessly humping the stuffed animal. Let us know how that works, or if you’ve already tried that since the surgery, how it went.

I’m sorry to hear that things are not going well between them still! I hope starting from scratch helps!

I second K&K. After speutering, you often have to start from scratch. Best of luck with your cuties.

I started with the stuffed bunny switch, and now we switched condos. Hazel is in Chipmunks condo and Vise versa. the next step I am going to try is putting them in neutral area together with a nic cube separation, and work from there.

just reading through threads tonight and this caught my eye – just wanted to make sure you put space between the grids and didn’t have them sharing a wall. they can really get at each other through those grids (not that I speak from experience or anything….).

I’m sure you already know this but I didn’t want you to take two steps forward and then twenty steps back!
