Hey guys! So, yesterday I adopted a 1 year old male rabbit from a friend who couldn’t keep him anymore. I had been planning on getting another male rabbit to bond with my little guy, Mushu. But, I am having some trouble bonding them. At first I expected the unneutered male, I named him Panda, to act somewhat aggressive due to the fact that he has yet to be neutered (which I plan on doing ASAP), HOWEVER, much to my surprise Mushu is the aggressive bunny of the two! Mushu is being very territorial and protective of me every time I get near Panda and he tries to nip Panda’s nose every time Panda goes near him. Panda doesn’t even seem to care much for Mushu, he’s actually very curious and sweet. Anyway, I placed their cages next to each other in a somewhat neutral territory, the kitchen, last night and I’m really hoping that will ease Mushu’s tendency to try and nip Panda every time Panda tries to sniff him. Is Mushu acting this way because Panda isn’t neutered? I would really like some advice!

He most likely is. Its generally considered a bad idea to bond when either of the bunnies are unneutered.

Hey I agree with the above comment, it is much better and easier to bond bunnies when both are neutered or spayed. Mushu may be a territorial bun by nature, but it is possible that because Panda hasn’t been fixed, his homones are raging and Mushu can tell! My advice would be to keep them in separate cages and maybe even without play dates until Panda has been neutered and has recovered from his surgery. This should make it a much easier and less stressful experience, though I have read that bonding male bunnies can be tricksy even when both are fixed.
            Good luck x

I agree with Anna and Diamond. It’s really best to bond after all the hormones are out of the picture. Once your new bunny is neutered + 4-6 weeks for hormones to dissipate I would introduce them in a neutral area.

Panda sounds like a sweetheart! Congrats on the new addition!

Nothing more to add… I would take your time to get to know your new bunny, work on bonding with him yourself. Don’t worry about getting the two of them together right now.
