Bonded pair started fighting

So one of my bonded pairs, Makoto and Akira, started fighting out of no where. They’ve been bonded for almost a year and are brother and sister. Akira, the male, is neutered but I haven’t had the money to get Makoto fixed just yet. It seemed like Akira started the fight though so I have no idea what’s up!!! I want them to get back together but they keep fighting. I have another male, Yusuke, who is all alone and also her brother but I tried to bond her with him first and they hated it and she went for Akira instead. I don’t want 3 loner bunnies. It’s too sad to see loner bunnies. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Its probably because the Makoto isn’t spayed. Unspayed females can have hormonal surges, and bunnies around them will also react to that.

I suggest you keep them separate until you can have her spayed, then go through a long bonding process. If Yusuke is also neutered, you could try and bond a trio once Makoto is spayed. Before bonding, all rabbits should be spayed/neutered, you should spend a month prebonding, then you can start to introduce them on neutral territory.

Ok I am worried about this, 3 months ago my rabbit had bunnies gave my mom the male rabbit, but thought I only kept the female bunnies, one is actually a boy so I had it neutered Tuesday my vet said that I could put together with un spayed females (its mom and sister) on Monday (5 days apart) but reading online everyone says 4 weeks I am also worried about fighting not sure what to do!!! I have a total of 5 bunnies all female one male have two females together that just recently started chasing eachother and another two that seem to get along but worried that won’t last

Your vet told you that your male could be put with an unspayed female only 5 days after his surgery? Males can remain fertile upto a month after they’ve been neutered. Your vet doesn’t sound very rabbit savvy at all.

You need to get all bunnies spayed and neutered. Unspayed and unneutered bunnies cannot be bonded because their hormones make them unpredictable.

Extra note: females should be spayed anyway even if they aren’t going to be bonded because the risk of uterine cancer is incredibly high. Plus false pregnancies can be horribly traumatic.

Exactly what Sarah said above – except my vet said that he has seen some male bunny’s still be fertile up to 60 days after so to wait that long just to be safe! (For those getting the male done before the female)

I got both my female spayed and my male neutered at the same time (last Wed) – they have been separated since they were 8 weeks old and are 6-7 months old now. They will stay separated for another month while I start Pre-Bonding them.

And yes, also as Sarah said – 80% of unspayed females will develop uterine cancer by the age of 3 to 5. – if they are spayed then female bunnies can live up to 10 to 12 years!!
