Help! I have done a dumb, dumb thing. I foolishly agreed to babysit my daughter’s classroom bunny two weekends ago. She was in her own cage, but I neglected to tell my husband not to set her cage in the room with my own two buns and their NIC mansion. So, he brought home daughter and bunny and put the cage across the room from my two bunnies. We never let all three buns out at the same time, but we did let my two out and they very quickly began fighting. Classroom bunny went to my daughter’s room for the duration of her 2 day stay with us.
I’ve cleaned the carpet in my bunnies territory and washed everything that came in contact with the other bunny, but they still cannot be let out together without fighting. They’ve never been this aggressive before – this is in the air, biting, fur flying, attack mode. I tried letting them out together in a neutral area (our hallway) and they did fine but that was for a short time. Our house is small and I really don’t have much option for a neutral space. They have had free run of our two big rooms when they aren’t in their NIC mansion. Right now, one gets the big cage and the other has a small cage and I alternate free time.
I’m really frustrated and not sure if they will be able to be together again. It seems to be getting worse instead of better. Any ideas? Should I just keep trying having them meet on neutral space? I’ve seen some things about stress bonding but I am hesitant to intentionally stress them out…Frodo has a vet appointment on Monday because I think he may already be developing a stress related skin issue… Thanks for any advice!
