Bobby (4months old) crossed the bridge while we w were asleep

I am beyond sad to share that our Little Bobby Boy born on May 13, 2018 left this world while we were sleeping.
We got him at 10 weeks old. He was a little energetic bunny. We used to live in a basement apartment and moved to or new condo 3 weeks ago.
Before definitely moving we took him back and forth a few times so that hee would get familiar with the new place and the definitive move would not come as a shock for him.

He looked fine and we were looking to neuter him to bring home a friend for him in the near future. As I only work from home once a week and he was spending 9 hours by himself 4 days a week.

2 nights ago I was gonna give him his night pellets before going to bed. He ran into the bedroom as soon as he smelled the pellets as he usually used to do. He did a spin as we thought him that trick and he started prosctively doing it before eating his pellets to get them ASAP lol. Anyhow, after the first spin he lost control of his body and started spinning confused like crazy and his limbs were unstable. It lasted for like a minute or so. But we was scared and did not want to eat for another minute. After that he started acting normal and we thought it was nothing major. Looking back I am not sure it was the right thing to do. Yesterday, he was more quite than usual but still eating and dropping poos, drinking tons of water . He even managed to get into the hay bag (little troublemaker) and started eating from there. He was in hay paradise. It was so funny but we took him out cause we did not want to him pee on all the hay.

When we went to sleep and I gave him a few pellets and he had a good amount of hay to eat through the night. This morning I woke up and found him under the bed which was unusual as he would rarely go there. He was more on the social side. At the beginning I thought he was sleeping as he was laying over a piece of cardbox and he has an ikea bed where he liked to nap during the day.

After an hour or so of not hearing from him I went and check and found out he was actually death.

I did not even any screams through the night.

But I I feel terrible. He was so young. Does anybody know what could have happened to him?

I’m so sorry for your loss.

I don’t know what happened, but it sounds like he might have had something serious and congenital wrong that manifested. It sounds like he might have had a seizure? I really doubt that it was caused by the spinning, but that was maybe a trigger for something that would have happened eventually at some point.

Again, just wanted to say I’m so sorry, it sounds like he had a loving and wonderful home with you.

Thanks Ana, Now that you mentioned the seizure I did some research and i think that may have been linked with him passing away. I was surprised it happened with the spin but it may have been timing only. So sad I did not know we could have taken him to the vet to check the cause of his death

I’m so so sorry. It’s never easy loosing a bun. I personally think he first had a seizure and then the days after, he must have had a bad wire connection from the seizure that caused his demise. Just know he probably wasn’t there before he passed as seizures make them stop working up there for the time during it. My dog had seizures all the time.

I often think the necropsies can help settle some nerves but also bring up a lot of “what if’s” that can leave you more unsettled than before.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s very evident that you truly cared for Bobby. It’s a wonderful gift of a life you gave him before his passing. It does sound linked to some sort of neuro-related disorder. These are very difficult to spot and even treat in rabbits, because cases are infrequent and every rabbit shows different severity/frequency of signs. I hope you do not feel guilt, because you were responsible in looking for health signs. He was still eating, showing curiosity, pooping… those are all very positive signs. I hope you find comfort in knowing he was provided with a loving, healthy environment to thrive for the time he had with you.

This is very sad looks like he had some sort of neurological problem, never seen these symptoms before poor little Bobby such a short life, but happy one, he wasn’t in pain which is the only good thing
