Blood still in urine-been on meds for about a month now Is it a symptom of urine sludge?

Hi,

 Leah has me really realy worried. She’s been on baytril for about a month now and she is getting blood in her urine. Is this common of urine sludge? Leah is spayed and just went through a round of more urine tests about 2-3 weeks ago.  I noticed some more blood in her urine the last two days. I contacted Dr. Jeanne. Leah is to have sub fluids 3 times a week now and another 2 weeks of Baytril. She’d been on the baytril for about a month and a half when it’s finished. When i got home today from getting her meds there was a large amount of red crap in clear pee on the floor.  Has anybody’s bunny gone through this?  

She’s never had blood in her urine (or none that i’ve noticed) before till after she had her bladder flushed out. I’m so worried for her……

I imagine it could be because the sludge is irritating her bladder because it is sandy. Are you sure it’s not just a red colored urine because antibiotics can darken a rabbit’s urine. I would though take her in and see if the vet can get a sample and check for urine.

Possibly the next time you see it you can blot it up or syringe it up if it’s still wet to get to your vet to analyze. I don’t like the sound of that either.

It’s like a jelly substance. When she had her urine analyzed about two weeks ago Dr.Jeanne said there were some blood traces in it. Just not as much as it was before during her first UTI after her bladder flush…. I think if she does have more of it I am going to call and see if they want a sample. I really really don’t like her peeing that stuff out….

It is possible that it’s the very stuff that needs to be cleared out of her system, and might be the desired result of the treatment. I would call, but I wouldn’t lose sleep over it. As long as she’s still eating and making poos along with it, her system is working it out.

Jack did have blood in his urine but it was due to bladder stone. He had it removed and though we dealt with sludge, we were able to keep it at tolerable levels with sub q fluids and diet changes. And he did not have blood in his urine after that. I was able to test whether he had blood in his urine by pouring hydogen peroxide on the urine…and if it bubbled up like crazy, it meant there was blood in it. But like I said tjose issues went away with treatment and diet changes. She is is definitely eating and pooing. As you can see here (she is the one with black markings):  

 

She had no problem eating her dandelion greens this morning. She also didn’t have any problem taking a cranberry.  I really hope it’s the stuff she is supposed to be getitng out. Here is two pictures i managed to get of it (the one was a night so not that great of light).

 

 

Does any of this stuff looks familiar to you guys?? I didn’t know about the hydrogen peroxide. I’m going to have to try it and see what happens. Thanks for the link! I’m going to write down the veggies you were giving and get them at the grocery store.She already gets the parsley, cilantro, lettuces, carrots and dandelions. I didn;t know about the rest. Leah already has had her diet changed abit. Less pellets and more hay.  I might have to cut out more of the pellets though. In their water i’ve been putting in some crab/apple juice. I know Beka really likes it. ^^
