I was watching the videos sarita posted and looking at Jack (from the video)’s urine freaked me out. Sometimes I get some of that in my litterboxes from the buns. Its like a white powderly/mineral-y looking stuff. Is that bladder sludge? It looks kind of like someone sprinkled powdered sugar on something wet and it dried.

No, that’s not bladder sludge. Sometimes their urine may change once it hits the air. Also rabbits excrete excess calcium and oxalates through their urinary tract and it looks like that.

Bladder sludge is very pasty and smelly and it may be difficult for your rabbit to even urinate – usually straining or urine scald on their fur can be a sign of sludge.

              Worth asking though right Katie?!

Check this image out. (link below) Scroll down to pg 3. This is normal urine (fyi-picture on right is red towel, not blood)  Warning: the end of this article has more graphic images so give it a miss if you’re squeamish. http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/Uro_ge…hiasis.pdf

I was able to express Twizzler’s bladder last night and get some of her sludge out and thought about taking a picture and the next time I will try so you can see what the sludge looks like (it smells awful too – makes me gag).

When I first noticed that Hunny’s urine was thick and white when she got over six months old, it freaked me out. Luckily, I got online and checked it out and found out about the calicium being eliminated from the rabbits body and that was why it was white and thick after it sat for a while. Computers are sure great learning tools.

I checked out some of her other videos- and the rabbit orthopedic manipulation was interesting!  Looks like bunny chiropractic care- and the bunny looked so unconcerned.
