Hi Thnxs to anyone who replys . This is my first post so please bear with me .
So I was spot cleaning the rabbits cage (plastic bottom) the other day and found about 2-3 of these black bugs in beneath the sawdust. This hasn’t been the first time I saw them but I don’t think there parasitic as the cage wasn’t crawling with them, nor where they on the rabbits. They seem to appear after it’s been warm outside. They must be attracted to the ‘smell’ of warm rabbit pee And poop but I do clean it out often. I don’t think there in the sawdust as I’ve had it tested. I just can seem to figure out what they are as I can’t find anything that resembles them or any forum post saying a similar explanation. Iam just curious as to what they are Incase they are harmful to rabbits (or other family members!) But as I say I only see them when it’s warm. Anyone any ideas I can’t seem to find an answer to it . I will try take a pic of one next time I see one.

Thnxs in advance for any help

No idea but wanted to point out that sawdust is actually not reccomended for rabbits. Also I’m a little confused, your rabbits are outdoors but in a plastic bottom cage?

Sorry for the confusion. No my rabbits live indoors in a plastic bottom cage (just added Incase it added information?) I mean when the weather is warm outside .
I do use dust extracted sawdust, so all the ‘dust’ and bugs in it should be dead. I’m assuming the black things that come after the weather is warm are from outside. I would say there about the size of an ant.
Can I ask instead of sawdust what would you recommend? I know about respiratory problems (which is why I use dust extracted sawdust) but Iam open to suggestion
            Thank you in advance

Sry for the confusion. My rabbits live indoors in a plastic bottom cage (just said Incase it added info) and by outdoors I mean the weather. As I would only see the bugs after warm weather outside. I do use dust extracted sawdust to reduce the risk of respiratory infections and allergies. I’ve had the sawdust tested and it came back negative so obviously these this come from outside.
Can I ask what your recommend instead of sawdust as Iam open to recommendations

              Thnxs in advance

                Ah okay

I would honestly only put stuff in the litter box  (I’d recommend either carefresh or wood pellets – I buy cat litter wood pellets as I couldn’t find any wood stove pellets in my hardware store) Then leave the rest of the plastic bottom bare, or add a fleece blanket
