So, my bun seems to be a bit of a weirdo; he’s quite the chewer and as such I’ve bought some bitter spray – I’ve even taste-tested the stuff with instant regret, lol! It tastes like that anti-nail biting solution, its so vile. Unfortunately, Sam seems to have a taste for it, or just isn’t bothered – its’ made him worse, if anything. I’m not entirely sure if its’ the fact he’s not actually tasting it while he chews or not but its’ just had little to no effect on him – he’s really chomping at my wallpaper. On saying that, he licks the floor where it might sprayed, too.  I’ve never had a rabbit that’s been such a chewer before so this has really surprised and baffled me. Its’ not the corners of the walls, either – its flat edges as well.

        Any tips?

I will be making an appointment to see about getting him neutered. Initially I wasn’t entirely for it, and the behaviour which could have been hormonal or a tantrum did stop after he got plenty of fusses and apologies from me (I’d gone away for a few days, and left him at a bunny boarder) but I think if it stops the destructive behaviour, its’ well worth the cost! I just have to wait until payday next Friday. He’s got plenty of toys to chomp at; willow, a large box filled with hay, and rabbit-friendly herbs/plants, a dig+chew mat, a tunnel which he sometimes nibbles at and loves running though, another large log which is friendly for rabbits for him to chew at. Nothing I’ve got seems to distract him for very long.

Aw, my bunny is named Sam too!

I’ve heard of bunnies not being affected by that bitter spray stuff – it’s unfortunate! You might have to resort to placing NIC grids attached with cable ties across the wall, though it’s not the most attractive solution, haha. Bunny proofing/covering the spots that he chews will be the best solution, since distracting him with other toys doesn’t seem to work.

Awh! Its a great name to have

Yeah, he’s definitely taken a liking to it, haha – I’m just leaving it off now and it seems to have taken the edge of his obsession off a bit. Such a strange little bun. I’ve heard that lemon is a good deterrent, so that’ll be my next stop as when I tried to give him some lemon some weeks ago, he definitely was NOT a fan, lmao. Failing that, I’ll try your NIC grid and table ties suggestion. And if that doesn’t work – I may need to redecorate >.> haha
