        Hello.

Quincy has gotten much better about chewing things (especially now that I know which materials tend to attract him).  However, I can’t keep him away from my crunchy cord guards, which is the last obstacle that keeps me from feeling totally at ease while he plays.

When I adopted him I was told that Bitter Orange works safely when nothing else does.  Even rabbits (like Quincy) who think Bitter Apple tastes awesome are repulsed by it.

But for something so wonderful, I can’t find it anywhere!  I can’t find it in pet stores, I can’t find it in major shops online, and even the shelter that recommended it hasn’t had it in stock in ages!  Is there some secret stash of this stuff in the world?  Have any of you used it?  Where did you find it?

        Thanks!

Hmm, that’s odd. I know that BB has used it. I personally do not use it, I use pure lemon oil as a deterrent and even pure orange oil works works on my two. You can even rub the skin of a lemon on the object and it will also help. Have you tried the corrugated metal cord guards? What a dickens you have to munch right through your regular ones.

I am thinking it is a product that was discontinued. Grannick’s makes the bitter apple but no mention of bitter orange. Do you know if they were manufacturer of it? Perhaps write the company and ask?

He is a little dickens! Something about the texture must be irresistible to him. I’d hate to have to resort to metal covers because the plastic ones were expensive enough, but I’ll think about it.

I wonder why such a good product would be discontinued? I guess I’ll try your tricks in the meantime…

I’m not sure why it would be discontinued, I’ll ask BB as I know that she used to use it. I know those cord covers are so pricey! You can try blocking access to them with NIC panels.

Vinegar is my favorite deterant and cleaner for everything!  My cat loves to chew on the vacuum cleaner cord.  That’s the only cord he chews on.  It’s a cushy like insulated cord, so I think that’s why he likes it.  It’s very creepy!

I just tried the vinegar on a paper towel, since I already had some. He liked it. :-/

OK, so your saying that your rabbit is some type of masochist?

LOL! I’m not really surprised though. I don’t imagine that hay and pellets taste too good either, and how much do our rabbits LOVE those?

I didn’t use bitter orange – just bitter apple, and the bitter apple spray didn’t work – only the bitter apple gel – but then they stopped selling that!

Let us know if the perfume thing works. Since I am not a fan of the perfume smell, I spray it on a paper towel and then wipe the paper towel on the place I want them to avoid. I do this instead of spraying the area because it’s just too offensive for me too.

there is something called Phooey in the cat section is where I found it.  Tastes terrible. And it stays on. You touch the wires a month later and the taste is stuck to your hands you can wash n wash it is still there.

Tho the nasty thing doesn’t bother Cotton. Laith stopped chewing them real quick tho.
